What about the gtx 1070, ask him the price for 16 of them. GTX 1080 at $539 was a good price, for $30 more is not worth. Actually as you are buying many, a final price on the GTX 1080 for $530 a piece would be the deal.

Get only the 4 and wait for others 1070 to be available, for $400, the gtx 1070 is a much better card.

Things must be rough where you live if you consider $540 for a 1080 and $460 for a 1070 a great deal. You could buy two of the RX 470 4GB mining cards for $500 or the gaming RX 570 4GB cards for less than that, if you can find them and get roughly 20-30% more hashrate for the same price.

That is not true. The Dag file won't be even close to 4GB until 2019 and the diffrence in hashrate between the the 4GB and 8GB is less than 1 MH/s. In fact two of the Powercolor Red Dragon RX 570 4GB cards that I bought for $190 each less than 3 weeks ago will do over 29 MH/s and I have 8GB cards that only do 28 MH/s. Just because you think it's a good deal to buy overpriced cards for the performance they have in mining compared to ther cards doesen't mean they are a good deal. The fact that you would buy 16 1080's without even knowing how they perform in mining only shows you don't have a clue.

vann: each 1080 is making about 5-6$ per day. as i said, i'm doing intense 3d programming and i use lot of gpu, i only put them to mine when pc is idle. i think 1080 have better resale value for long term than 4gb cards.
how much are those 4gb making each ? i would be interested to see how they perform on nicehash

gtx 1080 ti is only good for dgb, pay attention that concerning any other algo, a ti and its 352bit does not help much, now if the ti had 512bit then maybe it could have double the hashrate but then again it would cost 999 ~ 1200 usd, nvidia would not sell it as cheap as they sell the 1080 ti which if you bargain can be yours for 650 usd, the 1070 is the better card here hands down if = 400 usd.

You have a point and you are not wrong or right, everything in life have plus and or cons and that depend on many things, for me, at $400 the 1070 is a better card overall.

 I had one of the mining cards ON ORDER - and the order was cancelled "as the cards had not come in yet".

 It would be nice if the RX series cards and the GTX 1070s are starting to drop back down towards MSRP - but I've not SEEN that to date, and the availability is still nearly nothing.

That depends if it can dethrone the 1080 Ti which I don't think it will be able to. If not NVIDIA will keep the prices where they are at most likely. Maybe the 1070/1080 will see a drop.

I own 1060's, 1070's, and 1080 ti's.
Saw no value in buying 1080 for the price vs a 1070 for eth/zec.
IMHO 1080 ti is the best card to go with at this point..

I plan on adding more 1070's for the right price sometime soon..

Edit: Just to note, my 1060 rig is one of my favorites.. extremely low energy and stays very cool..for the work it's done so far, at the price. Couldn't be happier.. but this will change with growing diff. for eth
