Hello Miners !
Same issue here (France) with the Hynix chips.

2 weeks ago I ordered 6 x Gigabyte windforce 1060 3GB (202€/each) all of them came with a Hynix chip and could mine @ 15 mh/s out of the box and 18mh/s with OC
So had to return them and ordered 6 EVGA SC 1060 3GB (238€/each) i received yesterday and guess what .... HYNIX CHIPS  Cry Cry !!!! (same 15 mh/s out of the box and 18mh/s with OC)

Will return them today and order 6 MSI 1060 Gaming X 3GB (250€/each). Hope I'll have more chance this time at the chips lottery...

If still mother F** Hynix will move to AMD or try to get some of the new Vega 64 or 56 if lucky enough.

Cheers and happy mining

Update : Received the 6 MSI 1060 Gaming X 3GB today all came with Hynix chips  Cry

OH lawd!
Not again!  How is the used market in France. Maybe pick something up used that is tested. No point in buying 3GB anymore. Try looking for 6GB I think has a better chance of Samsung memory.

@ the OP:
I have the following:
1) 2x 1060 ASUS Turbo 6GB, purchase date June 2017, retailer: memory express in Canada
2) 1x 1060 ASUS dual OC  3GB, purchase date Dec 2016, retailer ncix in Canada

All have samsung memory

ETH: 23.3MH/s, SIGT 20.1 MH/s, Sia: 500-800/s easy. the Turbos are a bit of a diva though and need more coercing.
Wattage: 75-110w depending on settings
Temp: Dual OC: 70C max, Turbo: 77C.

Hey,

i wonder if samsung was/is out of stock or something?
All my new cards from different shops comes with hynix.  Huh

Gb Windforce OC bought 03/2017 -> Samsung
Gb Gaming G1  03/17 samsung
Evga FTW+ 04/17 samsung
ASUS Phoenix 04/17 samsung

Gb Windforce OC 05/17 hynix
Gb Gaming G1 05/17 hynix
Gb Windforce OC 06/17 hynix
ASUS Phoenix 07/17 hynix

MSi 3GT OC tomorrow with hynix? Angry

that's probably because of the shortage stocks. it would be better if you had a micron memory than hynix

samsung > micron > hynix

i guess you just had bad luck my friend.

I just had an old order for an EVGA 1060 6GB SSC ship finally (came in stock) and it has.... wait for it... Hynix.

Gets about 265 sols on ZEC which I'm OK with. I'm gonna use it as my gaming card next month anyways.

Looks like card manufacturers have diverted all their Samsung chip allocation to their dedicated mining cards - so that is the only selling point for those pure mining cards. You want that extra 10 to 20% hash you buy a dedicated mining card - otherwise stick with the consumer market and consider yourself lucky if you get Micron.

Looks like almost all the 1060 models are in stock everywhere now and the 1070s are starting to trickle in.... still no $100 1070s on Craigslist though  Grin

For gaming, the differences, if any, should be negligible, unless you are trying to achieve a high overclock.

Generally, cards with Samsung memory will offer more flexibility with overclocking, but these things vary significantly unit-by-unit, so that's just a generalization.

Yes but that latency should take a toll on gaming as well wouldn't it?  I don't have a samsung 3gb model to do a fair comparison on gaming.  It's one thing to have different overclocking ability but here we have different stock performance 15 Mh/s (Hynix) vs 19 Mh/s (samsung)

Sounds like a reasonable decision if the memory manufacturer does not make a real difference for gaming purposes. At least for the card manufacturers. Sucks for us of course. I think it was triggered by the recent supply shortages of almost any descend GPU.

Well the card manufacturers went out of their way to supply us with crappy dedicated mining cards that are effectively useless for resale when the next gen cards come out (what gamer is going to use a DVI output). The only way they can guarantee their ROI on designing those things is to guarantee sales by saying "hey, we have cookies, err Samsung memory".

Still trying to figure out what is worse... nvidia pulling this crap with RAM switching or AMD CEO blowing off GPU miners as a fad.

Both of them have Hynix memory. Of the 6 I purchased in the past month, the only one with Samsung memory was an open-box unit I got from Newegg.

So all the cards are overpriced now because of the low hashrate. Let's hope the price of the GTX 1060 will drop to €150 or something like that.

Also I think there will be a lot of returns in all shops. When you can buy them for a good price it's still interesting to build a 12 GPU rig with Hynix cards.

It looks like the PowerColor RX 480 and RX 580 are coming back in stock in Europe.

I think this is a better option for now instead of the GTX 1060 with low hashrate because of the Hynix memory.
