I am not sure if they are talking about Bitcoin in the basic economics class, but B schools are showing interest. There are separate electives relating to Bitcoin / blockchain in some of the leading business schools.

Funny, I took a course in econometrics in 2009 just as bitcoin was coming onto the scene.   It was actually the last college course I took.  Definitely no mention of bitcoin then, but I'm sure somewhere in the thousands of courses being taught that btc is being mentioned.   It's too big not to be at this point.  I hear kids are even using laptops in class nowadays.   Lol

Do you think they are talking about bitcoin in your basic ECON class?

i have seen at least a dozen topics over the years saying somewhere some teacher talked about bitcoin in some economics class, but i don't think it is officially in any syllabus to really talk about it.
and also most of them were misinformed and were saying how bitcoin will fail and drop in price (and price was $400 for example Grin)

Upon the educational level bitcoin is used a little. Whether it's a economic class or other classes doesn't matter and there are several institution where students are making their thesis on cryptocurrency. I came to know about this through one of our forum member who often conduct survey for his master's thesis.

No, i don't think that bitcoin is mainstream enough to be covered in economic classes yet. Maybe in like university level classes but definitely not going to be in your average 11th grade econ class.

It should definitely be in the curriculum, though. Because bitcoin is going to be the future and if young people don't get educated about it the whole country is going to lag behind. Whoever teaches decentralized economics first imo will be the most successful country of the 21st century.

Though, i guess a lot of people are afraid that when teenagers learn about bitcoin they'll just use it for drugs. Absolute nonsense. There are more people using bitcoin for good than for bad, imo. And it's not bitcoin thats the problem, it's not like you can't buy drugs with cash when you're a teenager Roll Eyes

I don't think Bitcoin places an important role in our economy yet, perhaps it would soon in the future. However, Bitcoins can be a good example of how supply and demand works. When more users want and buy Bitcoin, prices go up, which can explain some peaks in Bitcoin price.

Of course it would be good to include Bitcoin in econs class for students to gain more insight now, since Bitcoin would be part of our future. Wink

I am Economics student and so far noticed mention of bitcoin nowhere. Also, there was/is never any healthy discussion about bitcoin in my class.
But there is increasing buzz about bitcoins in other places like newspaper, ebooks, media, news channels. Etc.
Here is the front page of one of the top newspaper of my country -

Very soon to conclude Bitcoin is a element important in economy on the world's. Although, benefits Bitcoin make to user not small, it helps the transaction and payment between this country to other country becomes easy, fast and safe than old system payment

I see no reason that bitcoin will get mass distribution. A lot of coins in the hands of the whales so they will always affect the value of the coins. People on hand will not have many coins and so they can only do small purchases, and the prices of transactions of high which makes unprofitable any attempts to trade for coins. Constantly floating price of coins is also not conducive to trade. I do not see attempts to solve these problems, and this suggests that bitcoin will remain an investment coin for the elite.

Bitcoin was not part of course I took when I was in university. I could have love it if it was among the course outline then. Currently I am advocating bitcoin you be will study among the course in our economic class in the universities.
Love!

Regular schools are probably never going to talk about this in the U.S. Business, economic and even trade schools probably will in the near future, but not your basic run-of-the-mill school.

I think you should start a discussion about bitcoin in your class mate. So that your teacher or your classmate will be aware on what is bitcoin and how can it help everyone specially students to earn extra and not depend on their parents for tuition fees. I think it will very good discussion and you will be at the forefront of all bitcoin related in your school. Whatyathink?

I have some friends studying economics in college. After 4 years, I asked them about bitcoin, they have absolutely no idea... I felt a relief. It means we are still ahead of the pack by a long shot. We are still early investors. By the time bitcoin is being taught in college it's already too late, but that is still years away, we have time to amass cheap BTC before it hits 5 figures.

I think there are some country that bitcoin was added already in the book and i think its already discuss here many times.. that there are some schools that actually studying cryptocurrency.
Maybe in your country still not added the bitcoin in economics books even here in my country there are still not well known currency but i heard that even elementary school teacher teaching about cryptocurrency..

Hope that it will be added soon here in my country so that bitcoin can be well known digital currency that can push the price high..

i think they don't because not all people know about bitcoin and they need more explain before they are understand what is bitcoin and how to use bitcoin. i think in future we can see this is happen and bitcoin is not just for economic class like we've seen before. bitcoin is for every people who wants to make real money from doing many things with bitcoin.
