I believe that they're popular mainly because well it was the first of all cryptocurrencies to be made. Honestly most of the other coins are scams and greedy ways that the developers make money. The only other coin I can think of that isn't a scam are dogecoins! What do you think?
Nail on the head, this is pretty much the only reason. bitcoin is trusted because ozf its age; essentially no one here feels there is a major flaw lurking around waiting to be exploited, to ruin value. bitcoin is far from the most advanced coin on the market; without a doubt at this point that distinction would have to go to Ethereum. not an eth fanboi, but in terms of raw venture capital applied to development of the protocol, there may be more investment/innovation in eth at this point (ICO scene) than there has been over the much longer life of bitcoin. we are riding trust now, and not innovation. there was a time when I could have justified the price given what bitcoin was presenting; not that the space is saturated, i can't really see myself a reason that bitcoin should be on top, save age, and level of adoption. and that we are riding trust, when we degrade it as a community (the forks) the price suffers accordingly (observe  ) |

Even before the development of bitcoin some type of digital transactions were taking place, but none of them gained this type of recognition as bitcoin. This really is all because of the distributing that happened with no marketing via media or any other platforms. Second is the development it's achieved in a very smaller period of time.
In my opinion all it is due to the fact that it is simple and easy to be used and providing more chances to be rich in very short time, it saves time and make us able to earn some extra with our regular job and those who are deprived of a regular job it is letting them to meet their financial needs easily and make their living standard good. All these are reasons for its popularity |

because it serves as the vanguard and pioneer among other cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin was the first to establish credibility and availability in the internet ever since online transaction and mode of payments via online changes . Now that bitcoin even manage to gains such high value then it would just be normal for it to be more and more popular as time goes by and as investors and enthusiast increases. |

To me bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency every other cryptocurrency is just a duplicate of the nature of bitcoin and can never be as bitcoin. And the value of bitcoin is way ahead of every other cryptocurrency in the digital currency world.

I guess one of the reason bitcoin is popular is because of the versatility that bitcoin has given us to earn it. Bitcoin is also very popular because the number of users are still increasing and i guess the developers of bitcoin are still keeping the users in control on the price of bitcoin which is very good.

I think Bitcoin has been growing in popularity since it began, but we first saw mainstream interest in 2013...then interest waned in the wake of the Mt. Gox disaster. Since then, I think the platform and tooling has matured. You've got exchanges like Coinbase that have developed methods of securely storing Bitcoin and have at the same time made it easy for the average person to link to their bank accounts.

Yes, being a pioneer cryptocurrency it is considered as a primary one. Mostly all the ICO and tokens have the option to invest using Bitcoins, making it one of a primary need to invest in altcoins or ICOs. Recently the news, governments, large analysts or investors are talking all about Bitcoin because its rapid growth and giving it more popularity as more people are coming forward to use it. Ofcourse another reason I personally find important is the increasing usability in the online market for buying services and goods. |
