I've lately been toying around with the idea of a crypto newsletter, perhaps daily or weekly. Maybe just news is covered, OG or reposted content, reviews, etc. Not really sure yet, just an idea.

Do people subscribe to this kind of thing? I saw https://www.tokendaily.co/ getting some recognition on Twitter for being a top startup but besides them, I haven't really seen any other competitors in this space.

Having a daily newsletter is too much, a weekly or monthly newsletter is much better.

Do people subscribe to this kind of thing?
If there's an assurance that their emails aren't sold to advertising companies, then "YES".

I'm not sure I'm getting what you specifically mean with a "crypto newsletter". Isn't what you're describing pretty much like subscribing to an email newsletter from typical crypto news sites like Coindesk and CoinCentral? Or is there something I'm missing here?

I have a feeling, I'll get spammed so I don't sub. And when it comes to news, I prefer to read a single topic from different online publishers which is why visiting their sites directly is more suitable for me.

I too wouldn't want a daily newsletter. Maybe a monthly newsletter which summarizes what happened each month? an overview of news basically. I think I would want that.

Email wouldn't be sold to ad companies. Revenue would probably be made through sponsored posts. At least that's what I'm thinking of.

Actually, pretty much. Except it would aggregate news, the most relevant news for the industry as a whole. That's a very blanket statement and I'm not sure on the implementation yet.
Either:
  • Subscriber can personally tailor between different topics they do or do not want to receive
  • I/group curate content

I don't think it would be hard to curate a weekly/monthly newsletter. These could be more personalized, as in more OG content. The daily content would most likely be bite-sized info... which just gave me an idea for a name lol.

Also, if anyone that could help with technical or content implementation or just help me brainstorm in private, I would appreciate that! Feel free to PM.

Its not necessarily a bad idea, i think i would subscribe and i like the "bite sized" idea,
I like quick reading, no waffle just to the point news alerts.

A weekly newsletter would be difficult, it would be in competition with more established
daily running alternatives. Our crypto space moving fast and people are constantly
connected si there would be tonnes of work and development needed to get up to speed
and the marketing would be immense.

They do, but only when the website/person offering such is reputed out there. Some people hate the daily mail, while some don't. Some prefer to get weekly/monthly updates listing down the courses of action that took place in bitcoin world. There are tons of newsletters out there, which spread real and fake news.

So if you want your newsletter to be a success, then you have to provide top tier content, make news simple, because most of the people who sign up for newsletters are the newbies,in search of what bitcoin/crypto is. Avoid using complicated language and don't use humor in such cases, people won't understand it at all. Unless, you're basing your newsletter only on humor, then it can be something new and unique which could be worth a try.  Grin

If that's the case then it might be a good idea. Turning on bitcoin technical news(about proposals on the platform and such) and turning of price predictions news and such. Though personally I'd prefer a mobile app that notifies me on certain types of news than an email newsletter.

It wouldn't be too difficult. As a writer for couple news sites, I would be able to do the writing, or outsource it to another quality writer. I am worried about days where things are relatively quiet though..

"Hey not much happened today! Come back tomorrow". I hate fluff pieces, and don't want to create daily newsletters for the sake of meeting a quota.

I'm not sure I'm getting what you specifically mean with a "crypto newsletter". Isn't what you're describing pretty much like subscribing to an email newsletter from typical crypto news sites like Coindesk and CoinCentral? Or is there something I'm missing here?

A mobile app could be something to look into if the newsletter takes off. I'd already have to get at least a quality landing page, and there'd be a lot to setup for just making a good funnel for just the email letter.

Topic based curation may have periods of dryness so what may occur is like a "general" industry bit, with additional info added per each users tastes.

I personally prefer some times with no mails to be honest. Probably have a choice between receiving news daily/weekly/3-4 days? But yeah, for certain news categories there's definitely going to be a lot of times where you wouldn't find anything to write about.

In 2018, newsletters are a no no! We certainly want a good, no images, no advertisements blog which curates news from reputed sources. Avoiding ICO related stuff is a big plus. Something like hacker news for bitcoin/cryptos. Unfortunately, every curation site that I come across is filled with unwanted advertisements which are a turn-off.

We are thinking of doing something like this for www.totalcryptos.com like free service.  But when you look at the metrics, it doesn't make sense - which is why most are populated with ads like people complain about.

It's a good idea and yes people subscribe to daily or weekly newsletter regarding bitcoin/altcoin development, price prediction, political influence, government regulations, and so on, but not an ICO advertising. I have subscribed to several sites which give a notification to my chrome browser anytime there is a fresh news, I prefer this kind of notification rather than subscribe to the newsletter that sends to my email. It's easier and convenient for me as I can choose whether to read it or not, or else quick read a news.
There are a lot of things going on crypto-world and weekly news seem not suitable for me, you can't just resume all the news in a newsletter and describe all the details.
Nevertheless, daily doesn't mean you have to provide a news everyday though, due to there will always days where things are relatively quiet.
Once again, it depends on personal taste, some people like to check directly to the sites, others like to read through an app, and there will be subscribers as long as you offer a good content and legit news.

I do like newsletters, but only when it's really, really specific to the field I'm interested in - this newsletter should contain news items or information I wouldn't ordinarily be able to find on my own easily.

If it's typical mainstream news, trust me, it's not worth it, because there are real-time news aggregators aplenty that you could just scroll through daily anyway and get what you want.

You need like what they call a curator these days, curate the best content, summarise it, and then dig through blogs, Reddit, bitcointalk other social media to unearth interesting discussions. Even so, I've found myself unsubscribing myself from newsletters after finding them repetitive or dull eventually.

You could try. However, why would people have any incentive to use your service to get news, when there are countless other sites like Coindesk which also have Newsletters (https://www.coindesk.com/newsletter/)?

There's definitely a lot of competition in this space than you think of, I believe. It's unlikely that without a lot of marketing, you'd be able to gain a decent size of following any time soon.

I think that there would be virtually no point in trying to repost stuff on your newsletters anyways. The only viable option imo would be to write everything OG, or employ a professional writer to do it for you. But you've got to think of how you're going to make revenue as well.
