Despite the sanctions/blockade from Saudi Arabia and its allies, Qatar has maintained its position as the richest country in the world, ahead of Luxembourg. Interestingly, 4 out of the 5 countries are in the Asian continent, with Macau, Singapore, and Brunei occupying positions #3 to #5. Average wages in Qatar stands at $129,112 per head, which is almost double of that in the United States.

What? I knew it was high but I didn't know it was THAT high. No wonder alot of people go overseas and work there.

I did a bit of research on Qatar's economy, it says that taxable income generally is subject to a flat (CIT) rate of 10%. That's alot lower than I expected with that high of an average wage.

Oil has that effect on people.......it makes them rich.

That average is obviously high because of the vast amount of wealth at the very top. People near the bottom don't make a lot, but the one's at the top make more than the worldwide average.

Qatar is an artificial state of England. They originally belonged to Saudi's but the oil under that soil is just too much so the elites in the UK decided that that small soil has to have its own country.

Why do you think they buy all those lambos, golden showers and every unnecessary overpriced shit? Because they have to. That's how the West get their oil for free.

If they ever start thinking about education, philosophy, human rights and any other stuff which only exists in Euope&USA, they'll get bombed to the ground.

USA&EU are paying them so they can stay stupid and give their oil for free and they are so stupid, they use that money for lambos instead of educating themselves.

if car manufacturer creates and supports water/hydrogen being the fuel of cars, those oil countries will come tumbling down. we'll probably see arabs eating asian crickets and super worms for their meals. but then of course that's not going to happen. US has more oil businesses apart from war businesses.

Yes, it seems that Qatar is still no 1 in the world but it can change very quickly.
Qatar is in a very hostile environment and in political and economic blockade by neighbors.
Some predictions suggest possible violent conflict resolution and war.
In such scenario, Qatar will loose freedom and wealth.

I can't believe this. Now i know why most of the indians work in Qatar. How can a small nation become so rich. I did some research on google. I found out that Qatar has became the richest nation because of their Oil and Gas resources. They are actually richest enough to build a stadium for the 2022 world cup.

There is a report that 40%of Qatar marriages end in divorce. Most of Qataris,
Qataris benefit from free education, free healthcare, job guarantees, grants for housing, even free water and electricity, but abundance has created its own problems.

Like to know more about Qatar from you guys...

That is per capita I guess! If you notice, these countries are really small. So no wonder the per capita is very high because aside from being small countries, they have really huge income.

Asian countries are doing good. Time to change our way of looking at things. Time to dump aside the stereotypical way of looking at things.

Do you think that the Saudis have the balls to invade Qatar and loot the natural resources? Do you remember what happened to Kuwait, after the Iraqis invaded that nation? Also, there are American military bases inside Qatar, and this rules out any chance of a third party invasion.

It still definitely have a smaller population than Saudi Arabia so that might affect the figures.

Oil has that effect on people.......it makes them rich.

Save for it's effect on the environment, countries growing rich from oil is fine. The real problem is that the elites there use the money to fund  Islamism in other parts of the world. They seem to see it as a religious obligation. Funny that it wouldn't have been possible have it not for that oil engine from "Great Satan America". Prior to that, these countries are just barren land. Even Dubai maintains an exhibit to remind people what it looked like before the oil boom.

I do not know if I should be proud that countries in Asia were among those richest country in the world because I am from Asia but my country was not part of it.  Hopefully someday.  No wonder why many of my countrymen were going abroad in those richest country in Asia.  But I was amazed that Saudi was the least on that list that you posted.  Well, despite the crisis that Qatar has been this year, they still maintained their position, I wonder now if I should go to that country or not.

They are rich but as you see nowadays, they can't even go to bathroom without the West's permission.

So what will they do when the electric and hybrid cars will take over and this will only take a few years to happen. Many manufacturers of cars which accounts for the most usage of oil nowadays will become self efficient and not need the oil anymore. I know the industry still needs oil as Airplanes cannot move long distances with electric motors, but still cars are much more than planes. Maybe oil will not be so expensive then, as it is now, we are paying an overpriced gasoline price here in Europe compared to the US.

Oil will always has a value and it will always be the cheapest energy source for cars. There will always people who favor oil cars over electric cars. The demand may decrease but it will always exist.

Electric cars use Lithium batteries and Lithium resources are also not unlimited. If Lithium prices start to get expensive because of manipulation or actual demand, the whole electric car business may lose its charm.

The most optimal way of using electricity in cars is making them hybrid right now. Electric only cars have many drawbacks like the long recharging times which oil cars don't.

Qatar is rich but like I said, If they rely solely on oil, they'll become the next Venezuela. They have to find others ways of making money.

Qatar has spent the oil/gas money wisely, unlike Venezuela. Although they are splashing some money in events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they have build up sizable assets using the sovereign wealth fund.

UN gives Qatar a year to end forced labour of migrant workers.

Qatar has promised to introduce a new law later this year to end the kafala system under which migrant workers can only work for their sponsor and have no freedom to change employer or leave the country without their employers’ approval. Human rights campaigners have complained this allows conditions that amount to modern-day slavery for many of the migrant worker population of more than 1.5 million in Qatar.

The action comes in response to a complaint from a dozen countries including the UK, France, Pakistan and Canada, that Qatar was failing to observe the UN convention on forced labour.

I think they can't last long alone against their neighbours. Biggest problem for them is geography. They are almost surrounded by territories of those 4 countries.

So? It is maritime country and all of its neighbours support wahabi terrorism just as Qatar is  Smiley where do you see the problem, sir?

Qatar and the U.S. on Tuesday struck a pact to strengthen Qatari action against terrorist funding, an issue at the center of the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf that has pit longstanding American allies against each other.

The memorandum of understanding was signed as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was in the Qatari capital, Doha, part of his sweep through the region in pursuit of a negotiated settlement of the feud, now in its second month. With the accord, the U.S. and Qatar “will do more to track down funding sources, will do more to collaborate and share information and will do more to keep the region and our homeland safe,” Tillerson told a news conference in Doha.

Average wages in Qatar stands at $129,112 per head, which is almost double of that in the United States.
The average wage is a meaningless terminology.
In reality it looks like this:
A rich oil baron earns 10 million a year, while hundreds of people merely make $10k, but if you add them all together, the average wage will be over $100k  Wink
All this says is how many millionaires a country has, not how rich are the citizens.

Quote
As a result of the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire, Qatar became a British protectorate on 3 November 1916. On that day, the United Kingdom signed a treaty with Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani to bring Qatar under its Trucial System of Administration. While Abdullah agreed not to enter into any relations with any other power without prior consent of the British government, the British guaranteed the protection of Qatar from all aggression by sea.[74] On 5 May 1935, Abdullah signed another treaty with the British government which granted Qatar protection against internal and external threats.[74] Oil reserves were first discovered in 1939. However, exploitation was delayed by World War II.

Quote
On 3 September 1971, those "special treaty arrangements" that were "inconsistent with full international responsibility as a sovereign and independent state" were terminated.[75] This was done under an agreement reached between the Ruler of Qatar and the Government of the United Kingdom.[76][75]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar

The truth is, Qatar never had its independence. They are independent only on paper. Qatar is still a state of the Great British Empire. That's probably the case for Turkey either. When you see USA&SA getting mad at Qatar, you should actually see them getting mad at the UK.

It is actually crazy to me how much money the average person makes in Qatar. I could live like a king in my country (a very highly developed, first world country) for three years from that amount. As a matter of fact, I could live like a king here for FIVE years with just the amount that a single person in Qatar makes annually.

It is insane!

Qatar is the largest exporter of LNG i the world, and they have a population of only around 300,000 nationals (plus another 3 million expats). So all the revenues from the LNG sales is divided up by just around 40,000 families.

Good data, buddy. Yes as we know since finding one of LNG reserves with LNG reserves reaching 900 trillion cubic feet, Qatar became the largest LNG exporter in the world. Income from oil and gas make the country's average per capita income very large, and I do not wonder if this country became the richest country. So although some Arab countries cut off diplomatic relations, it will not have a big effect on this country. What I'm thinking right now is that if their liquefied natural gas (LNG) reserves run out for decades, will it still be the richest country? I am not convinced of this, unless Qatar has a large income other than liquefied natural gas (LNG).

They simply lucked out by having a tiny population with a ton of oil. If the population was over 10 million versus its current 2.6 million, it would probably have a similar gdp per capita as saudi arabia.

the advantage always take with the numbers of native people i'm also thinks the same if they have a lots of native that will share the rev of the oil
that they got the portion will not be the same lucky for those who lives in qatar that's why many of ofw here also wants to work from that place.

Gas and oil are two key commodities that have boosted the wealth of Qatar. The country's population is also small so the government has an easy time in the fair distribution of resources. Doha, the capital, is growing at an alarming rate.

Oil has that effect on people.......it makes them rich.

That average is obviously high because of the vast amount of wealth at the very top. People near the bottom don't make a lot, but the one's at the top make more than the worldwide average.
Crude Oil hasn't been generating a lot of money for these oil producing countries recently due to the crash of the oil market these few years, they should have slipped down the list but it seems they are still hanging on to the top spots, i dont know their other source of income aside oil exportation.

They don't have bread or water but yeah, they have money. Sometimes I feel we should send all those selfish money minded people to these countries and just leave them. The oil power is stronger than any other in this industrial world. People should value the nature and stop being selfish.

if car manufacturer creates and supports water/hydrogen being the fuel of cars, those oil countries will come tumbling down. we'll probably see arabs eating asian crickets and super worms for their meals. but then of course that's not going to happen. US has more oil businesses apart from war businesses.

It became possible and there are rich, but it is necessary to more accurately study How the country gives life to its citizens. How exactly are social guarantees distributed and what do citizens have from their state. If this is all to learn then you can get very original answers.

Out of the population of 2.6 million (more like 3 million now), only somewhere around 250,000 and 300,000 are Qatari nationals. The rest are short-term immigrants from countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Now compare this to Saudi Arabia, where there are somewhere between 20 million and 25 million nationals.

I wonder if it is difficult to become a citizen of this country? If the government cares about its citizens there, then I do not mind changing citizenship and leaving my poor country.
I wish I was born in Qatar

Despite the sanctions/blockade from Saudi Arabia and its allies, Qatar has maintained its position as the richest country in the world, ahead of Luxembourg. Interestingly, 4 out of the 5 countries are in the Asian continent, with Macau, Singapore, and Brunei occupying positions #3 to #5. Average wages in Qatar stands at $129,112 per head, which is almost double of that in the United States.

The richest country in the world has to rely on the economy! Medical services, education, convalescence ... how. What is the standard of living in this country? How much does Bitcoin in the United States cost when selling a BTC? The countryside of cherry blossoms is also quite rich.

The action comes in response to a complaint from a dozen countries including the UK, France, Pakistan and Canada, that Qatar was failing to observe the UN convention on forced labour.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/24/un-gives-qatar-year-end-forced-labour-migrant-workers

Not just Qatar, but all of the Gulf nations are horrible places to work for blue collar expat workers. That's why very few people from the developed world go there, despite of the high salaries. For the female housemaids from South Asia and Southeast Asia, the condition is even worse. On top of the physical abuse, they have to deal with sexual abuse as well.

Thats right. Been there and seen the situation but I think Qatar is quite an open country compared to other mid east country eccept UAE. Qatar has big reserve in gas that can sustain them in the years yo come.

Qatar is just like any other GCC nation. They treat the blue collar laborers like slaves. And their attitude towards the housemaids is the same. 99% of the housemaids working in Qatar can expect getting raped by the employer.

This is a reason Qatar is so successful, western economists and politics can't handle the truth - the fewer taxes they impose on society the better everything will work.
In Europe, there is corporate TAX, maximum income tax rate and VAT, not to mention other types of 'hidden' taxes and fees.
How can you survive when more than 50% of your income goes back to the state?

The vast gap between the very rich and the very poor is not easily ignored. Qatar’s rapid growth is being driven by a continuous influx of labourers, mostly from South Asia.

Qatar, a country with the size of Estonia and 2.6 million population (mostly foreign workers), is rich because it owns huge Natural Gas reserves (14% of the world capacity) and modest oil capacity compared to OPEC members. But wealth is not equally distributed.

Wow It's very high, to be honest I already know that Qatar is the richest country, but I never thought if the statistics showed an unusually high number. Moreover, it turns out that the numbers shown are double from the United States. This surprised me.

A rich country does not necessarily means the people are rich going by the uncensored report and outside those fine and beautiful places that we have see on TVs one cannot but imagine if its the same Qatar we always seen. That being siad I believe the current report showing them on top is just a buffer to the whole world in which I believe it won't stand for long no country won't by any means feel the effect of sanctions from neighbouring countries considering the fact that sanctions are not given if they know it won't have any effect.

I'm very surprised when i learnt that Qatar is the most richest country on earth. Whereas Qatar has some much money , every country on earth must get on well with this country for their own sake.

They don't have any significant oil resources. But they have huge natural gas deposits and they benefited enormously from the price rise of LNG during the early 2010s. A low population also helped.

I think that the economy in Qatar alog with its position in oil and gold still has a long ways to go when it comes to their productivity and Qatar really has shown correct decisionmaking and stability that has gelped them even when economic problems arise.

Qatar has seen astonishing economic growth ,I think it is because of the rebound on oil price and its massive natural gas reserve and it will be adjusted for purchasing power.

They will face problems now. The natural gas prices are inter-linked with the crude oil prices. If the prices remain low, then obviously the revenues are going to get affected.

The economy in my understanding is the production. I don't know any big companies in Qatar. A resource-based economy is very vulnerable and I think that when the blockade of Qatar this can create big problems. I think that Qatar will have to negotiate with neighbors in order not to provoke a crisis.

The reason for that is both the "average joe" and the security guard is from third world nations such as Nepal and Bangladesh. The Qatari nationals are not interested in working. Why should they work, when they have so much money with them? Also, they have huge sovereign wealth funds, which will sustain them for decades even if the natural gas prices crash.

Oil and gas have made Qatar the richest country in the world - rich enough to be ready, apparently, to spend $200bn (£120bn) on stadiums and infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup. What's less well understood is the impact of such rapid change on Qatari society itself. Qataris benefit from free education, free healthcare, job guarantees, grants for housing, even free water and electricity, but abundance has created its own problems.

In a society where Qataris are outnumbered roughly seven-to-one by expatriates, good job offering as sometimes given to non-Qataris.Qatari family life is atomising. With children almost universally being raised by nannies brought in from the Philippines, Nepal or Indonesia, gaps of culture and outlook are opening up between the generations.

QATART? NOT CHINA?

They are talking about per-capita wealth, and not about combined wealth. Even if you take the combined wealth in to account, China will be at the second place, far behind the United States.

It is probably because they abuse the living hell out of migrant workers. Also only people in the native land can own land (I dont know if this effects) but something worth noting.

There are a lot of advantages in setting up a business in Qatar. The income tax rate is zero and there is no bureaucratic red tape or corruption. You don't need to bribe the government officials, if you have the necessary papers with you. The corporate tax rate is also very low, at 10%.

Qatar is not definitely quickest start for somebody wit entrepreneur mindset.
Establishing company here is far harder than in most european countries, it takes
lot of time and need more initial capital cca. 30 000 EUR.

if our european politicians would be psychologically capable to exploit indians and africans like they do, we would have already a massive base on mars and would esxperiment on space cruisers.

but instead these people get welfare etc.

Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world Not just for investors and tourists but also for the euro. Compared to other countries every Qatari company features a role to play with Saudi companies which is why it's so strong. Epidemics just like the coronavirus didn't have much effect.

Qatar is same like the other gulf countries, their source of incomes in from petroleum and gas like about 85% so those companies and other things are nothing from their primary income so they will have effect only when oil wells gets dried up.

Qatar companies are backed from people with a lot of money this is why they are characterized as rich.
This means that Qatar is not the richest country as it doesn't have the biggest production line and the strongest economy in the world - those two are totally different metrics.

I didn't know the Qataris lived this rich. Comparing their average salary to the Russian one, I want to cry. The average salary of a Russian is only $400-500. Our pensioners, who have worked their whole lives, can't afford to travel or live a normal life. They have to live their lives as beggars.

I didn't expect that Qatar is the richest country in the world to be honest.  I thought it was some countries for the west. But yeah, I think it's because of their leaders. The thing with dictatorship and monarch is that if they got a good leader, they will succeed, and that's what happened to Qatar. They had numerous smart investments and properties around the world and their capital, Doha, the land of skyscrapers, has a lot of investors.

When a country have non renewable source as their primary source of income then they won't stay long at the place and 2030 is going to be the era of electric vehicles that is why Qatar is moving towards tourism in the past few years or they will be one of the poor countries in few decades.

They are rich but as you see nowadays, they can't even go to bathroom without the West's permission.

Well, while I agree to you, I don't think this will be a long term problem for the victim here.

As globalism is more approached (and no nationalism can beat it), concept of nation itself would go away, wars might take place by the conservatives but in vein. Hence equality in terms of education, philosophy etc would flourish.

But, why would they have to buy those overpriced unnecessary items for US to get oil for free though? What if they start buying books and stuffs instead?

Not only oil makes Qatar so rich, with such high wages. It is also the right approach and the national mentality of citizens. They were not always so rich. but a rational approach brought them to first place in the world

Government is so rich, so they are giving high wages to their nationalities, I do't find anything different in this approach.
