I just updated to v8 and the new version of the client is now downloading EVERY SINGLE block.... There's no way this is right. Can I move a file from the old folder to the new one? Or worst case scenario, will someone send me a link to somewhere that I can download the clock chain and explain how to do that? Or maybe a link to a place that I could even get it on DVD

This is unexpected; it should convert the old block chain.

To download the blockchain you could use jgarzik's torrent https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145386.0

Bitcoin Core developer [PGP] Warning: For most, coin loss is a larger risk than coin theft. A disk can die any time. Regularly back up your wallet through FileBackup Wallet to an external storage or the (encrypted!) cloud. Use a separate offline wallet for storing larger amounts.

Hm? It should be using the blockchain in the same location.  Are you perhaps mistaking the conversion for a redownload?
