Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I think electrum is not bad because many ofy friends are using it , but still here I will suggest you to use those things that I tried .
If you have a better pc system then try to use Bitcoin core , otherwise blockchain.info and myseelium wallet are much better wallet .
You will get both options of import and export private key in these two wallets .
So feel free to use them , but be careful export your private key and then put at a safe place where no one can steal.your private key , because who hold your private key , will also hold your all the Bitcoin that is I nyour wallet.

Or something like that if you understand what Im trying to point out. Thanks for the response.

There are many alternatives out there but most of them doesn't share private keys with us, there is jaxx wallet which is actually a multicoin wallet and also support bitcoin, you can store bitcoin there along with other alts in more safer way than any other usual bitcoin/altcoin wallet.

i think it will handle with good by the dev and the teams, you don't have to be worried. as long as you don't make any transaction in august 1, you are safe and its better to save in electrum. but if you still have bitcoin in exchanges, maybe you can get new coins after august 1 if split coins is applying so you better wait and see.

You can check this guide http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/hardfork.html for your electrum to handle all it.

Also try reading this thread. It may just help you this coming August 1. A lot of us are worried too so you better be aware of what could happen.

The best thing here to do would be to hold your Bitcoins in a wallet and keep the private key safe. Most of the experts recommend the same.
So my best suggestion would be that you download Mycelium wallet and store your bitcoins in it. It has the option to export the private key so that you can hold your bitcoins safely. If you dont want to safeguard it with a private key then i guess blockchain would be the safest option since it handles all the transactions. But yet it wont be as safe as when you safeguard it with private key.

As long as you can export private keys(on electrum you can) you don't have to worry about a thing. you can also use mycelium if you want to. i'm currently using both mycelium and electrum.

There are so many issues about jaxx from its users so I'll not recommend using it, there's a risk, I mean a big risk using them.

Since you use already Electrum desktop wallet which is really recommended, I might suggest that Mycelium mobile wallet is a good choice also. You can assure that you're coins are safe there just make sure that you're device is safe and secured.

This link must be read so you are aware what will happen this coming august.

You don't need to go in other wallet which is not able to control your private keys. and  i think better to stay in electrum instead.. but if you are living in india they are using zebpay i think better to choose wallet where the building are near in your place.. like here in my place which is coins.ph i think my coins are safe if i save my bitcoins there but i will be still stay in electrum because i can't backup the private keys that i can recover once the the site is down or having a big issue after segwit activation..

From the various suggestions, I think the Electrum will be the best bet and even me, I am considering going that route in moving my coins but my questions is how to avoid the high fees which I feel since its not in the process of selling then I can just go for the basic fee and it can take as long as possible since its still coming to my wallet. What do you guys think about this?

if you plan on HODLing no matter what then any cold storage method you choose is good enough for that purpose. just make sure to transfer your funds as soon as possible.

you can either use Electrum on an offline computer if you have any. or use a live offline linux to just make a seed, write down the seed and then send funds to one of the addresses and your seed is like your key.

or simply use a paper wallet with bitaddress.org to make a new key pair and send your funds there.

to the moon with bitcoin...

First you don't have to worry about the split, just like the devs are saying if you are holding your bitcoins on a wallet where you control private keys.

You don't have to think about any problem.

And besides, you don't have to look for some other wallets ,electrum is already one of the best.

To be able to hold bitcoin in a long time I think electrum has become the best choice for you.
But if you need good mobility then blockchain is the best wallet you can use. It all depends on the needs you want.

There is virtually no place other than private key for not holding the Bitcoins themselves but as a proof of ownership of a portion of all the coins.

Whatever you do and which ever service you use, it'll be always and forever stored on private keys, wanting to use a service which would handle

Those keys is just an excuse out of laziness, move your lazy ass mouse and visit directory.io there you could find all the keys which could

Possibly ever exist, then select a page number and copy paste any of the available lines without clicking on the + sign in the left side because that

Would trigger logging and the admin of that site will then check that address to see if it has any funds.

I would not recommend using blockchain,
And the best so far is electrum (in my opinion of course).having a problem when i am using blockchain, and i ever deposited my money and until now i never receive anything and my balance still 0.
Other than that i also discovered a lot of phising website when i tried to log in ( which is lead me to clipboard virus and also my keyboard get infected )

I have got a flawless wallet, you can move to omniwallet.org if its trust meets your requirements.
Omniwallet does not provide you a private key but you can  export external keys in it for sure

This is a bad idea storing all your coins there if you can't export your private keys in case theres a fork happening this August. But if the Omni developers provide a way to split your coins safely then its ok. But still, its better to trust no one, not saying Omni is not trustworthy.

If they can't provide private keys than it is likely that the external keys you will enter there will also be stored in their servers which is quite dangerous. I will suggest OP to continue with electrum because I haven't found any good alternative to them till now.

As I see everyone is talking only about electrum and jaxx.

My recomandation goes to electrum too but what can I say is do NOT use multibit or jaxx on android.

Second certain fact is that think about holding bitcoins after 1st of august. Let's see what happen and after that you may decide.

And for sure the easiest and the best way is to use QT wallet. Don't to have it fully sync. Just install the wallet, take the address and simply save the private key. This way anytime when you will want to get to your bitcoins just go to blockchain.info or any other platforms even electrum wallet.

I would not recommend anyone to use Jaxx. I just don't feel any confidence on using their wallet based on the amount of bugs and security issues still not fixed. I remember some time ago when a few users tried to restore the wallet with the backup seed and their coins went missing, just like it was another wallet.

So... a paper wallet? If you don't plan to spend soon, there is no reason to download a wallet. Just generate the private keys and print it.

Any software wallet would do. There's really no reason to go with paper wallets there just kind of strange in more of a gift novelty item.  Wink  just need to have private key in control.

There's no reason that you can't back up that information on to a separate USB drive to keep it safe there's also no reason that you can't put that information on to a text document.

To be able to hold bitcoin in a long time I think electrum has become the best choice for you.
But if you need good mobility then blockchain is the best wallet you can use. It all depends on the needs you want.
There are mobile versions of Electrum too available for Android, you are no longer bound to use online services as a wallet.
There is no need to risk that something will happen during the fork and wallet operator will say that: "due to technical issues one chain of your coins is now gone".

Any software while it as long as you make sure that you keep the password to key the 12 would phrase or whatever it is that that particular wallet uses will be fine.

That is called wallet seed bro, that you can find multibit and electrum wallet when you finish the installation and getting start up that. Blockchain.info and bitcoin core are the best and authenticated wallet use it with the high trust. Don't share the private key and wallet.dat file be safe on your side to anyone.

I would suggest reading what Theymos has posted. Click the reminders above the navigation keys of the forum.

I would stick with electrum, I believe they have some sort of way to be able to hold both bitcoins in case of a fork. Next option would be bitcoin-qt wallet, as it is the most robust choice for bitcoin wallets, though the problem is you have to download the whole blockchain.

The only thing that you really want to do is get it off of the online wallets off of the exchanges and off of information areas like that. And thus you are safe.

I think what you are using now is already a good one to store it I heard that there are plenty of user's who are suggesting that wallet,
And I think I would also give it a try if I ever change my mind in holding it .

What if there will be a chain split? How will my bitcoins stored on Electrum can be used on my preferred chain?

Or something like that if you understand what Im trying to point out. Thanks for the response.

You don't have to worry about that so just keep using that wallet. Just make sure everything important was being handed properly like seeds and passphrase.

And to tell you honestly you don't even have to bothered thinking as no hardfork will be happened. Smiley

*if you get my point too.
