I would like to put around $500 into btc so that I can add my name and coinage to an ASIC buy, they are going fast..  half gone since this morning.  Is there any way for this to happen?

Much thanks

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

PMs appreciated, I would like to do this in the public forum if possible.  About the MoneyPak idea, it looks as if I would have to have a PayPal account.  I haven't used mine for years, don't think I have the email address connected to it or the bank account.

Is that currently the preferred method of this type of transer?
