Andrew.
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

A few months we learned that we couldn't crowd fund the purchase of a Bitcoin ASIC mfr minimum order requirement of 10,000 with the likes of Kickstarter or Indie Go Go.  Only a portion of the lot was needed to make miners for personal use using open-sourced hardware designs for the ASIC.  The manufacturer refused to sell in small quantities.  The common crowd fund sites only accept projects, not basic goods acquisitions, and we didn't want the hassle.  Enter a platform that now allows for crowd funding of basic stuff.  We are just about to take it out of test mode and just got approved to accept Bitcoin payments from a popular provider.  Credit cards payments are already integrated and we will be integrating BTC payments this weekend and opening it up ASAP.

At this moment you can see some sample campaigns that we've made and check out the look and feel:  https://www.groupgets.com/
You are also welcome to make mock campaigns yourself and of course give us feedback.

The bottom line is that the platform is for ANYBODY to INITIATE a group purchase for ANYTHING. We don't take money up front just like Kickstarter.  We only do so when the campaign threshold is reached and then we directly make the purchase. We are set up to handle distribution so no one person can disappear with the goods.  We are also allowing for private invite-only campaigns that are not searchable. There are also a few non-obvious features in the works that I think will really intrigue crypto currency fans.

Since this was inspired by Bitcoin and funded primarily by BTC mining, I'm hopeful that the community will benefit from our efforts.

I have several interests, none of them directly related to one another. I am in health sciences grad school and would like to help promote and drive real DIY Bio research and open source science. I am also interested in working with developers for gaming and edutainment products to sell for btc.

If you are a software designer or natural sciences type, please get in touch with me.

Lastly, I would like to know how I as a consumer can help promote btc as a currency for small time online commerce. I see it growing slowly, but I think trust is something that will take time.

That's all for now.

Hey,

My brother and I recently started designing paper wallets using our handmade paper. We offer a 10% discount if you pay with bitcoin. Our latest design is an origami piggy bank with the private keys folded inside. (Bankin Bits)
http://www.etsy.com/listing/174050011/bankin-bits-bitcoin-paper-wallet-origami

We love doing this and plan to keep creating new designs and gathering feedback. Let's get started!

Cheers!

Posted a newb thread of its own, but figured I'd post here as well.

Thanks everyone!

Hi all.
I need a team to help bring this business idea to life.

http://coinstogold.com

All participants will become shareholders. We need to brainstorm a reward system based on the work provided, perhaps by using the Bitcoin protocol to achieve an assurance of work and quality payment method

Programmers are needed to create contracts using the Bitcoin protocol and ensure legitimate transactions are fail-safe.
Developers needed to take this website prototype to the next level and integrate user accounts, charts and maintain cohesion.

Basically an entire team is required to brainstorm how this platform can be realized as an automated system as far as can be achieved without too much manual data entry eliminating the human error factor or at least reducing it to a minimum.

Anyone interested please use the contact form on the site.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed and will be rewarded upon launch if you choose not to become involved in this project.

Cheers all.
