Max OC for a 6970

I've searched all over google for an answer to this questions but haven't been able to find one.

I just picked up a 6970 a week and a bit ago and I've just been testing it out a bit before picking up a bundle of them. So far, with this particular one I've been getting amazing results when it comes to temps and mh/s. I'm running 370 mh/s at 940 Mhz OC and a temp of 60C (max), 58C(min) while mining at 45% fan speed. I have read some posts about how 6970's are terrible for noise, heat and low mh/s for what you've got to put up with. While the fan does run fairly loud, that it the only concern (according to others) that I'm having, and that's not an issue to me as I don't plan on spending a lot of time with my mining rigs while they're running.

To the point; I've managed to raise my core speed to 1050, generating a lovely 465 (average) mh/s count (mem clock at 300 mhz). This config brings my temp to a "whopping" 65C at 50% fan speed and my machine's running perfectly fine. My question is, is MSI Afterburner applying the correct settings? I've checked all of my temp gauges and mhz monitors and they're all reading correct. The math just doesn't add up when I calculate the difference between 940 Mhz (370 mh/s) and 1050 Mhz (465 mh/s). Right now I am completely confused with these calculation differences. Has anyone else had this big of a difference when raising the clock speed a bit?

I've also been wondering for those who have 6970's, what is the highest clock speed you've gotten up to, stable.

I'm assuming you're over-volting as well. On stock voltage the second I touch over 1000 on my 6970 it crashes....maybe it's just mine. I'm sitting at 975/300 and getting about 410 at about 68C @ 70% fan (mind you crammed next to another 2 cards).

I raised the voltage slightly as I exceeded 950 Mhz, just to be safe.

I'm judging from the rest of the posts I've seen about 6970's is that I may have just gotten a "good" card. I am going to pick another one up this friday and hopefully it turns out well. By the way it is a sapphire.

Stock voltage of 1.175, 975, 600 ~ 415MH and 77C.

I had this card up to 440MH before, but the heat and resets were too much.

I just finished building my new PC (not just a mining rig) and i am now testing the abilities of the hardware.
My hardware:
Cooler Master HAF 932 case
AMD CPU phenom X4 955 3.7Ghz o.c
Crucial DDR3 1600 2x4GB
Asus crosshair IV formula Motherboard
x2 HIS Radeon HD 6970 crossfire
Air cooling

I am using the Phoenix miner with flags:
-k phatk DEVICE=0 VECTORS AGGRESSION=8 WORKSIZE=128 BFI_INT

My 6970's are NOT overclocked and still on stock clocks of 880/1375  voltage 1.175

And I am getting 365 Mhash/s (each GPU) BUT... wait for it......  My temps are 91C !!!  I can boil an egg on my cards !  

I've been searching so much on other posts and i've never found people with such high temps.
Why is this happaning to me?    Is something wrong with my setup?  Or maybe the temperatures supposed to be that high?!?

- Relax and stop typing like a whiny dramatic child.
- You most likely have a shitty case with equally shitty ventilation, fix it by buying a non-shitty case or more fans.
- If the cards are sandwiched together, air will have a tough time getting in between the cards and the fan won't be as effective in cooling the card.
- If you were a real engineer you'd know that.
- Place a wedge between the cards to create an opening so air can circulate into the fan area of the cards.
- Change your username to something more akin to your level of intelligence.
- Mining stresses the GPU a lot so high temperatures are to be expected. It is always recommended to enable manual fan control and increasing speed to 60-70%. You might need higher speeds if you have a shitty case.
- If the noise from the increased fan speeds bothers you do not make a post about it, we don't give a damn. Solve that by putting on your headphones and crank the volume up on the Justin Beaver album you've been listening for the past few weeks.
- Seeing your sig motivated me to donate to planned parenthood to have less retards born into this world.
- If anyone found this post useful I encourage them to donate to Planned Parenthood as well.

Yeah I had my fans on automatic (45%-50% on load) so now i've fix it to be manually on 60% and the temp decreased significantly (82C). should i decrease the temps a bit more then that? what software do you use for GPU fan control?

I use MSI Afterburner to control the fans.  Also I forgot to mention, I have the case open with a house fan blowing air into it.

My two 6970s are currently mining @ ~425 MH/s each - clock 950 vcore .900v mem 365mhz

My MSI lightning 6970 was mining ~500 MH/s @ 1000 vcore 1.175v mem 365mhz

Consider all of the above information the maximum settings that I can set the cards with.

im getting 420mhash per 6970. I have them OC to 950Mhz with voltage at 1175mv and mem at 800Mhz
