For me Quake 3 has scary and offensive graphics and symbolism.
I prefer Quake Live over Q3 (little less scary) and UT of all arena FPS.
What do you think?

Quake 3 arena? It's a great game, I spent a lot of time playing it online back in the day, but I wouldn't say it was scary - more of a competition than a visceral, scary experience.
DOOM 3, on the other hand, was scary as fuck. I remember playing it at night, with headphones turned up loudly. Not for the faint hearted.
Aliens vs Predator was another game that I remember being especially freaky.
The newer Alien: Isolation is a very tense and scary experience too, not an action-packed FPS but more of a stealthy, realistic experience. It does a very good job of recreating the atmosphere in the original Alien film.

I think older gamers never will call Q3 scary. I even have some warm feelings because I played it when I was a teenager. Don't play FPS games right now at all. Quake 2 was scary I can tell you. It had single player campaign with some badass scary monsters  |

I played Quake 1-2-3 but they didn't scare me. They all were exciting and hard games. If you ask me, the most scary game is Outlast.

Doom 3 was so scary that my mouse hand would jump and throw off my aim (considerably). I don't remember having that happen to me while playing Quake 3. It's a little scary, but not like Doom was so I didn't really feel it much.

I am really amazed people are still playing Quake 3 and my feelings returned, but i dont think Quake 3 is scarry game, even Doom is more scary
