Is it safe keeping bitcoins on my phone?

I'm currently using an app called bread where I keep my bitcoins, should I open a wallet on my computer and transfer the bitcoins there or just keep the bitcoins on an app on my phone?

Bread wallet is pretty alright for a phone wallet if you're using IPhone. If you're using Android, I would say Mycelium is better.

The security risks of phone wallets mostly aren't with the app itself. The portability of the phone will have you bring it everywhere you go. The downside of it is that you are more prone to losing your phone and having your wallet stolen. Of course, you may have a seed backup and a PIN code but I wouldn't think it is enough.

If you're looking for a lightweight wallet, I recommend Electrum.

Encrypt your phone nad put a strong password on it. Do you have access to your private keys? If not, maybe you should transfer most of you bitcoins to a long-term storage option like Electrum.

+1 for Mycellium. Been using the app together with Schildbach's wallet for 3 years now and great developments especially when they first added the functionality of signing messages using the mobile app itself.

Another thing for mobile phone wallets, you might to consider on limiting the sites you browse and downloading apps using your mobile. Apparently, some websites do have cookies which hijack your session into whatever account you're logged in using your browser and can gain sensitive info about you. Downloading apps is self-explanatory; malicious code can steal bitcoins.

i am using coins.ph which is availablenin our country, i also use it for transactions, i can say itnisnsafe to store it on your phone, however i also make sure to keep a back up file on my laptop and external hard deive fornthe bitcoins i don' t want to spend.i just make sure that i also keep my stuff secured and that no one can easily access my files even if they tried rebooting the phone or seeting to to default.

If you have the private keys and trust the wallet, I don't see why not. It's never a good idea to keep large amounts on one wallet anyways. It'd be best to encrypt the phone too

If you think you are secured with your phone, then its alright. My bitcoins are kept only in my phone and I think it is convinient because you can have it anywhere, anytime you need it. But of course you need a back-up for that so you won't be wasting efforts.

Have you heard of a paper wallet? You can store Bitcoin on a piece of paper just like fiat money, and keep it in a safe or small amounts in your wallet.

It is safe as long as you have the private keys to keep your coins in your android wallet during the fork.

It's never a good idea to keep large amounts on one wallet anyways. It'd be best to encrypt the phone too

If you are having large amounts of coins it is better to create a offline wallet to store the coins rather than keeping it in your phone.
