How could a company just step out on its supporters like that and expect to be taken seriously in the future. I suspect this one will be a dismal failure if this is how they operate.

Even if they are not dead, they are not in healthy shape and will not be. I used the word healthy, cause if they continue to treat the supporters like this, they will suffer. bad PR is vital factor for a business. Take a quick look at other projects. They are very active in facebook, twitter, slack, medium, google+, telegram and you will understand .
May be they are suffering from variuos issues, it is quite natural. New project may suffewr from various things. but they need to communicate with the supporters . Good PR may bring fortune.
Dev wrote in the official branch and on the site of the reason for the postponement of ICO "Presale and ICO have been postponed in light of the SEC announcements. Complete disrespect to their supporters. The disrespect will come back 100 fold when they attempt to go live with this. A simple url can cause oh so many issues for these guys. Everyone I suggest posting how you feel about this here so there is a permanent record of this. A sort of reverse bounty for our friends at Acumen Network!
