Bounty [Electrum Wallet]

It seems I am cursed with the use of bitcoins, this year I had many noobs mistakes. I guess you learn the best from them, but sometimes taking a loss is hard. Ok, I have downloaded Electrum last year in October so I can have a look at the interface. Now, I only runned it and took a look at it but did not receive or sent any btc. Now yesterday, with all this hard fork news I wanted to get my bitcoin on my pc so I can get my private keys and etc. So I downloaded the Electrum wallet again, being not familiar with the method I did not knew I had to get a password setup or seed setup, whatever. So I just copied the receive address and sent, now I was looking a bit in the menu and i tought i should set a password my wallet, but when I try it's asking me already for a password. I did not set any password now, could it have to do with the first install of Electrum i did last year? I have found in Application Data files that belonged to the date of download last year of Electrum. I am doomed and cursed, there is 1.35 BTC in the wallet. If someone can help me I am willing to share 35% of value(well you can take all if you want, but i would really appreciate a fair help deal)

Please, someone help me as this bitcoin is ruining my life with all this techinal stuffs.

So, you're probably using last year's wallet... Are you sure you have no idear what the password back then might have been?

If you have a vague idear about the passwords you usually use, there are ways to brute-fore the old wallet. This technique only works if you either chose a (very) weak password, or if you have a vague idear about the password that was used..

I have some ideeas about the password. I tried that python recovery program from github but i think is outdated bcos getting the message unknown wallet version.  Other ways I do not know, i am not familiar with this bruteforce method.

Thank you, but I am really catching my ears with that program and from I have read I can state that my password is not bigger then 15 characters(never used). I have contacted the walletrecoveryservice.com, still no reply yet. If you know any other leads please tell...

Depends on you definition of hard... if you consider aes256-cbc encryption "hard" (and you should)... then yes, it is hard to decrypt the encrypted seed in your Electrum wallet file.

If you don't have the seed phrase or the wallet password, it is going to be difficult to recover your coins. At this stage, using "btcrecover" script is likely to be your best bet for recovery.

That btcrecover is a beast, my CPU got temperature of 99C. I doubt I could use it, is that what all recovery services do? Use that software only?

This question has already been answered above. If you have some idea of what the password is you can try gurnec's btc recover script or use a 3rd party service walletrecoveryservices (who you're waiting to hear from). If you don't know what the password is then you can't bruteforce it and your money is lost.

I'm just stating for the record that the password that you set isn't just for show. It actually encrypts the wallet's secrets (the seed + any imported private keys).

So, if I'm reading right... when you re-installed Electrum, it didn't go through the first time install process, as it found the wallet generated last year. So, you never completed the seed generation/confirmation procedure... is that right?

Guessing you have tried your usual/casual passwords that you might have used at that time? Would you have bothered generating a strong password if you were just testing the wallet a year ago? or would you have used a simple password for testing?

Like I said... do you have any idea what the password may have been? are you lazy like 99% of computer users and use the same password for everything or just add numbers on the end? ie. myPassword01, myPassword02...

or do you use really difficult passwords for everything? ie. $mYpAs5jaHQ2z#8@!

If you have *some* idea of what the password is... btcrecover is likely to be your best shot... I assume you didn't have any luck with walletrecoveryservices?

Like HCP already said: it would be best if you contacted walletrecoveryservices on this forum.

If, for some reason, he cannot help you, i can always take a swing at cracking the password... However, i would only be willing to do this if you had a reasonable idear what your password look like (length, which characters have been used, likely candidates,...), cause otherwise i would just burn cpu cycles with allmost 0 chance of getting the job done.

Check wallet creation/installation date and check your pc for txt files or your email id for drafts/mails of same date,maybe you have saved it somewhere.
