A group of enthusiasts WizSec (bitcoin security specialists) conducted a private independent investigation the largest Bitcoin theft - MtGox collapse.

A few hours ago WizSec published in its blog the first part of the results of the investigation, which became publicized in the light of the arrest of Alexander Vinnik:

In September 2011, the MtGox hot wallet private keys stolen, as a result of a simple copying of the file wallet.dat. The keys provided hackers instant access to a significant amount of Bitcoins, as well as the ability to control incoming deposits on the exchange, associated with a compromised wallet...

Definitely an interesting development. It doesn't say anything about any sort of possible involvement of Mark Karpeles willingly having cooperated. In that regard, two questions arise; [1] has Mark Kapeles any sort of involvement in this (in relation to BTC-E). [2] Mark Karpeles might turn out to be less of a harmful figure than everyone here has thought. I am fairly sure that he was aware of his exchange losing coins to what might turn out to be hackers, where from that point he was desperately trying to keep it away from the public in order to keep running his exchange. There is so much information popping up, where each time certain things might change your view on how things have been in the past. Everything needs to sink in properly.

Very interesting development indeed. WizSec has definitely found a lot of the missing loopholes regarding the Mt. Gox hackers. I haven't heard any new update regarding Marks' trial in Japan, but I believed that he has a lot of information and he is not telling it all. WME is the vital link here and could be very well the hackers of Mt. Gox that is sending coins to BTC-e, which Vinnik laundered. However, I don't know if Vinnik can identify who is WME as I think the dealings are purely online. Although I think if the authorities can look at the historical logs in the server of BTC-e, they could trace and trail "WME".

So, hackers got bitcoins from Mt. Gox->put the coins in BTC-e by WME->BTC-e then laundered the loot to someone. They are all important part of the puzzle to solved who really hack Mt. Gox.

BTC-E owner has already been accused by feds of participating in money laundering of the coins stolen from MT.Gox
could be true, could be a scapegoat, seing that he is russian as well
he was arrested in Greece, the US have a history of just detaining russians on charges of money laundering or weapon trading across the world
no f given-Viktor Anatolyevich Bout,anyone
in any case BTC-E is as good as dead now, doubt they will resume operations any time soon
another example why you should never keep your money at an exchange
