I saw a post from reddit that bitcointalk is banned in China. Are there other countries that banned this famous bitcoin forum? Also, what are the reasons for banning it?

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

I am not actually aware that China is banning access of their citizens for this forum. And that can be sad. Anyway, it is not our loss if a country would choose to ban this forum. This forum has been helping the Bitcoin community for a long time and we all appreciate this forum which can be the bridge promoting understanding and exchange of ideas.

Why would a forum be banned anywhere? Man, free world really takes its freedom as granted. Banning a forum?Huh FFS!

Probably because of spam or it could be from any country that also prohibits access to this site or the government of the country that makes the rules prohibit access to this forum not from this forum that deny access from the public

I have not heard. Now you can do something to prohibit? Many use VPN, Proxy, tor browser. How will they monitor such a ban? Russia already prohibits in its territory the VPN but it will not bring the desired result. It remains only to wait when will begin to ban the use of the Internet. Maybe the Russians and the Chinese too much talk with Kim Jong UN? They're your neighbors.

I think China just wants to ban everything, I think it would be pretty hard to ban this forum due to the various ways people can access the internet.

That's just plain weird. I see no reason for a simple informative website such as bitcointalk to be banned in china. If a website was promotion illegal activities or providing illicit resources to an individual it would be a reason. Maybe the censorship policy is just too much in china and they don't want bitcoin to take over the country? Who knows.

It is, considering that in the 21st century, everyone is posting stupid, nonsensical things in social media to "express" themselves. But some countries still have strict stance against other countries' culture, beliefs, ideologies and whatnot. One of them is China. Ever wondered why the Great (fire)Wall of China exists? To prevent their users from accessing contents about the Western world and their cultures that could free up 'liberalism' in their minds.

OP, wrong board. This should be in the Meta subforum.

Not surprising considering China banns words like democracy and oppression. Without net neutrality this is what our internet would look like also. Hell, why not ban the word bitcoin? Ya know, to protect the children.

Bitcointalk is the only place where I can earn some bitcoind for better life and a bit for gambling. Thanks God it is working in Serbia where I live. I suppose this forum become the greatest source for information and work for many people over the world and I don't know why China's government decided to ban such a good site.

I don't think China really fits the definition of "free world"   Grin  Facebook banned, Google banned (I think), YouTube banned, etc. China likes creating their version of things. Hence we see China's NEO. There probably is a bitcointalk forum counterpart for the chinese.  Cheesy

You probably are not familiar with how some things works in China, and since there is still a communist party in power there, if this news is true this is no surprise for me.Communist party greatly influences on all aspects of life in China, especially by limiting some things and censoring what they do not want to people see.Although economic they become the most powerful force in the world,on the issue of human rights and freedoms they are behind with some other less developed countries.

I think i can give you the best example. North korea, yet on the china's part this situation is very accurate. They have their own social sites their own apps and most of it are being used as an alternative for the global platform to keep them isolated

I have never heard any information about that, bitcointalk is the official bitcoin forum, it is the biggest forum of the bitcoin community. There is no reason for China to ban it. I think you made a few mistakes, so check it out.

China actually restricts access to a lot of sites including Facebook apparently:

still, there are some countries those are not interested in allowing Bitcoin as a legal currency, Like China and Bangladesh. it is really thought to understand their strategy about Bitcoin. so it is not a big deal for Bitcoin. in the future, all over the world Bitcoin will be legal currency. most important thing is that, though the country is not allowing it, the citizen of that country still transacting Bitcoin. so it doesn't make any sense regarding legalization.
