At current price can't afford in large quantity but still satisfied with whatever I have. Actually I saw at social media recommendation for ZEN to must have in portfolio for medium to long term. I am real long on this to see what next year brings us with this investment as well.

I'm very happy bitcoin down, zencash stock will increase.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Tracking System Beta for Testnet

We are ready to start the first part of the beta test of the new server system.

There are now three sets of regional servers (12 in all): Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia running with Cloudflare and clustered databases.

This part of the beta is still on TESTNET, so please do not switch nets yet.  Instructions for the next phase will be provided later.

This is the time to start setting up your nodes over the next couple of weeks.  There will still be some time after next beta phase starts before payments are enabled (timing depends upon issue found and resolved).

In this phase there will be testing of the node and server failover over the next week. Your node may be connected to another region at various times and then fallback to your home server.  Please check your nodes periodically and report any issues or anything odd.

*What to Expect*
When you migrate your node(s), it should detect which regional server to connect to. If not correct, it may be changed by running the tracker setup.  The migration process is pretty simple and quick.

The email system has been changed to Sparkpost. Be sure to enter a valid email address in the node setup to receive notifications of exceptions and downtimes.

How to Migrate

Follow the 'Update' instructions here: https://github.com/ZencashOfficial/secnodetracker
The tracker version is now 0.0.8

There are also instructions for a new installation on that page.

Snapshot for the newbies

(see the setup guide pinned to the top of the #securenodes channel)

https://blockoperations.com/build-zencash-secure-node-part-2-build-zen-node/
https://blockoperations.com/build-zencash-secure-node-part-2-5-test-tls-secnodetracker/

- 1 IP address per secure node (either IPv4 or IPv6)
- 42 zen (znt for testnet) in wallet off the node
- public cert is needed for your node
- 1 zen (private znt) in the challenge private address on the node. Send 5 separate transactions of 0.2 each.
- Tracking servers are at https://securenodes.zensystem.io
- post questions/issues in #securenodes.

For those of you who snuck onto the beta servers
Be sure to checkout the master branch instead of dev branch.

Note on IPv6 systems
If you have an issue connecting to the regional servers there is a script available that will update your nodes host file periodically with the addresses of the servers.  Please see this post http://www.zen-solutions.io/ipv6-dns-host-file-and-server-addressing/

Good stuff. Ae you trying to be as similar as possible to Zcash or are there things under way that will distinguish you from Zcash?
Zen has totally different approach and different goals, I must advise you to read white paper for in depth understanding of what we are trying to achieve here.

In short, we are oriented toward better users experiences trough multiple new wallets , secure messaging and publishing abilities. Also Secure Nodes will put us somewhere in between Zcash and Dash. Nodes are profitable but they will not be like Dash's master nodes, and their main task is securing of network, profitability is in the second plan.

Government system which will be implemented will include all holders, pools, exchanges..All interested parties. Entire Zen system evolution depends on feedback's from it community, and system itself. Constant changes and implementation of different existing technologies will take place on public demand. Our own research and development will be community driven.

* Through  implementation of Secure Nodes we made our first and big difference!

To understand all the differences in full it is most likely best to read the full documentation of all the three projects. Will do that as soon as I find the time. Thanks though for quickly describing it.

Thank you for this great news. Progress is constant and work is remarkable.

Zencash will be a very strong value to defend anonymity in the years to come!

Keep up the great work!

For those of you that mine ZenCash, this is my latest mining pool test, its a 24 hour test (just the beg. of an extended test) as the entire ZenCash mining ecosystem has now changed rather rapidly! Hope this helps someone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRACuWwT1OU

Also here is my other latest video talking about why having a mining farm can suck . . and as you all already know ZenCash has gained 250% recently

On the 42 zen needed to run a secure node, has there been any thought on changing this number, and specifically why 42 was chosen in the first place?

Reason being is that with the recent price jump, you now need about 1k in usd worth of zen to run a secure node, while before when zen was priced lower, you could get enough zen through about 300 usd worth of zen.

I suppose this rewards early movers who had zen before it was cool, but just wondering if the current plan is to keep the requirement at 42 zen, regardless of price movement. Assuming the price continues to trend upwards, it could be a barrier to more people running secure nodes (should you need more people to do so).

It has been discussed before, but 42 is a very famous number... but beyond the cheekiness of it, 42 zen makes it reasonable for many people to setup a secure node.  If you raise the number, then the costs become prohibitive as in the case of Dash nodes.  If you lower it, then you dilute the pool of secure nodes making them less attractive.  It's a little bit game-theory, and a little bit to promote decentralization.

Valid point, but the number 42 for secure nodes has been published since Zencash went live.  It's not fair to punish early adopters in my opinion.

I don't think so.  If it's profitable for people to stand up a secure node, then people will do so.
