Rooted doesn't mean anything bad. For example it means that in an iPhone for example you can get paid apps for free with some tweaks. Your wallet is as safe as in a normal phone, meaning is as safe as your phone is from malware. Keep only a small amount in your phone wallet and use it as a hot wallet, larger quantities should be kept in more secure wallets.

For an iPhone maybe... but on Android, having a rooted phone effectively removes a lot of the safety systems...

Usually, apps on Android are only able to run within their own sandbox and have very limited access to the file system and no access to other apps data. However, when rooted, if an app gains "root" permissions it basically gets unlimited access to EVERYTHING on the phone, including data belonging to other apps... like wallet files! Undecided

Be VERY careful if you are using bitcoins on a rooted phone.

You got the point in android its not safe if your phone is rooted except if you are using an updated antivirus which is you can protect your phone for any malware or any virus that actually well known like monkey or sexy virus and other monitoring viruses in android..
If you want to be safe much better to don't root your phone.. for much safe of your wallet..

The other thing rooted phone is just only for use modification of your phone and increase the speed and improves battery efficient.
For iphone honestly this is much secured os that i never heard that there are someone hack or make a virus for that phone that i think much more safe to use..

I think to save the bitcoin on the phone is quite risky, because the phone is vulnerable to hackers or viruses that can cause you to lose your bitcoin number so I recommend you use The safest way to keep bitcoin of min

Use a hardware wallet with Mycelium on your phone. That way your private keys are never on the phone. If you won't use a hardware wallet take a look at Breadwallet.

This is the best suggestion so far on this thread.  I have been at this for a long time now and I practice computer security as a trade.  My opinion, based upon much experience in the "school of hard knocks", is to never use any device online where the private keys are present.  Encryption of the wallet/keys is not enough with today's great malware and well schooled hackers.  Either use a cold wallet or a hardware wallet.  A BTC is now ~3000 bucks and a hardware wallet is 100 or less.  If you own 1/2 a coin its a great investment.  If you own multiple coins its an absolute no brainer.  If you need mobility and conduct transactions then the cold wallet isn't for you, its 100% hardware wallet for those of us in that boat.

I think rooted phones are not safe because they can easily hack your phone and monitor your activity in your phone..
This is what happen to other cellphone before but you can run an antivirus that i think you can be protected in any malware or and viruses or monitoring activity in your phone.. . and i think suggested much better to don't root for safety..

No, keeping your bitcoins on rooted phones is not safe though. Rooting your phone is just breaking your security features.

Why not just buy a new phone and save it for better without any upgrade or rooting that phone at all?

And the risk that you should be thinking of is to make sure no one will steal your phone.

Just to echo: NO, rooted phones should not be considered safe. Use a hardware wallet (for large amounts this applies regardless of whether your phone is rooted or not).

If you have an Android it could be dangerous. I have heard a lot about the vulnerability of the system. In your place I would not risk. I keep my coins in online wallets and have no problems. It seems to me that the people themselves make life difficult.

Base on my experience, I never encountered any issues or trouble regarding stealing/lost wallet funds in my android phones and all my android phones are rooted which is I'm using sending and receiving btc since I'm mycelium user. And I can say all posts above are definitely right, but it's always depend on the user itself on how he do things, on his android phone. Just make sure that your SU will always ask to prompt to confirm if there is an activity of an app for root access.
