Hello community,

I know there are many other similar threads like this but I could not find an answer to this:

Given, you start now (August 2017) investing in Bitcoin and the current price is somewhat around $2.500 and you want to "hodl" (just hold it in your wallet, do not gamble or trade). How many USD do you think you need to invest in order to become financially independent (millionaire) in 8 or ten years from now?

- $100?
- $1000?
- $10.000?
- more?

I know that if one has had invested in 2008 or 2009 when the price was low he would be rich already but I have no time machine :-)

So honestly, what do you think? Is there really a chance Bitcoin will increase that much in value again like in the past? Or has it already passed its zenith and newbies should better stay away now and focus on Altcoins instead? But if yes, what Altcoins exactly have a great future in your opinion? Ethereum? Dash? Antcoins? Shitcoins?

Thanks so much for your opinions!

$148,643.63ish

I give Bitcoin a 21% return on average for 10 years, because I'm optimistic.

1,000,000/(1.21^10) = 148,643.63

For people saying 1 BTC will be worth $500,000. I think they are wayyyy too optimistic. That would be too good to be true. Satoshi himself would have $500,000,000,000. That's 5.56 times Bill Gate's networth. Bitcoins total market cap would be 10.5 trillion dollars. That is how much dollar is in circulation right now! If it is too good to be true, then it is only that way for other people. Since I'm involved in Bitcoin it won't be. (Yeah, that is superstitious. I'm mostly kidding, but a small part of me isn't.)  Cheesy

You need about 60 bitcoin right now in order to be a millionaire in 10 years.

This is all speculation of course and after all, I'm just a newbie so take my approximation for what it is... an approximation.  Grin

If John McAffee is to be believed, if you invest around 6000 US Dollars now, you would become a millionaire in 3 years!

He said BTC will reach 500,000 in 3 years and he will eat his dick on TV if it doesnt happen. lol

This is very difficult to answer as noone knows how much Bitcoin will be in 10years or if it will even be there. For all we know its status could dwindle to My Space status. But if Bitcoin grows in the same rate as it has we can expect it to be priced very high. I am interested in what others have to say. Personally I think 21 BTC should do it. Give yourself incremental goals. I dont think its too late to invest in BTC, I still think your portfolio should be 50% btc and 50 % altcoins

Yes, it is very easy to calculate the yield from bitcoin. Its price is very unpredictable and we can not know how it will develop in a few years. In any case, you need to keep a few coins and wait for the price to rise.

Well, that's very difficult to say because we have factor in the inflation rate as well. Because the value one million dollar holds now, it will not be same after 10 years. The purchasing power will decrease over years and you will be able to buy less goods using one million dollar compared to what you can buy today. So that's a big calculation.

However, I can say that, investing in bitcoin can give you at least 25% return in a year. That's the minimum I am talking. I have got more than 100% return from just holding bitcoin from last two years. so the percentage of return can increase as well. There are lot of calculators available online which will let to do the calculation with 25% return.

Sounds good. If it would be that easy, we would be millionaire in 2028 if we invest $100 now in Bitcoins and in 2041 we can retire with 21.175,82 USD when bitcoin reached a price of $500.000. That should still be more than enough for a nice cruise in the Caribbean sea respecting the inflation.  Grin

According to MS Excel and a 25% rise every year:

If the amount were 25% per year it certainly wouldn't be static like that. As time goes on other investors would recognize its ability to grow and would buy as well driving up the price to a much lower ROI equilibrium. There is no way that in 20 years it will still be generating 25% returns.

John McAffee is a future eunuch. People that say what he is are living in a fairytale dream world. I'm sorry, they just are. Things like that just don't happen. Too many people on board at this point for that to be a conceivable reality.

i think it is not the amont in money that you need to spend more in order to be a millionaire, you need to spend more time, for you to achieve your goal, just like day trading, the amount of time you spent in studying, analyzing and doing a strategy can help younachieve your goal in a short period of time, learn first, then earn.

Seems plausible charting with the 25% yearly growth of bitcoin. And even you will only invest $500-$1,000 for this year and will just let your bitcoin sleep for ten years. You'll already have a big gain and as Mcafee said 3 years from now bitcoin will be valuing big so I would suggest that if you can attain to buy, just buy.

The question is: Is it better (and more profitable) to trade or just to buy and hold for 10 years. I think for newbies it would probably be better to buy and hold (hodl) than to trade Altcoins and lose much of the invested money in the end.

In that case, that will be better to hold. However, it is also depends if there's a business you put up. For instance, 10,300 USD is your capital. In the long run there might be a chance that it will increase for about 10 years. Perhaps, you will be a millionaire. Who knows even billionaire in that particular year. Though you have to bear in mind that there are risks in any business just in case, you have to prepare and know the possible solutions.

This depends on how much profit we want to get, if we want to get profit 1 million dollars of course must through the following calculations
The current bitcoin price is $ 2600
Estimated price of 10 years again $ 20,000
So 1 btc gets profit of $ 17,400
So we need to invest 57 btc or $148,200

saving & hold for long 10 years? i don't think it is good idea.
Better, if you do saving in recent time and following trading about price trend, when price start going down, you have to selling it. and when it price pump up start to raising you can buy it back stock.
