I think that's okay to ask for respect whenever you feel ofended by someone or something, but I feel that this is getting way too far with people's (over) sensibility. Don't know if you get the idea of what I'm saying but it's really annoying to deal with people like that
If I post I don't like to do/eat/play something, then someone will immediately feel I'm attacking them and start arguing and making a discussion out of nothing more than an opinion (I'm talking about giving opinions about something not insulting people for what they do or think)

Don't know if you agree with this, but I really want to know if you feel the same or it's just me. Let me know your opinions  Wink

As long as it doesn't crosses a certain limit, no one must be declared immune to criticism. Even heads of state and religious leaders are not immune to criticism. But the targeted party should also take it in a light way, rather than killing everyone who criticize them (just like what happened with the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists).

It's possibly mild Autism in some cases where people have difficulty understanding that other people have different views.

In the past people had beliefs and people understood that other people had different beliefs. Today many people don't acknowledge that a different belief even exists. This may be somewhat caused by people being more and more insecure and weak and to protect their fragile emotions they adopt a way of thinking where they don't acknowledge the existance of things which make them feel uncomfortable.

This is a dilusional personality disorder and it can be quite dangerous as you get people doing some really unsafe things because they don't allow themselves to consider the potential danger involved, because that is uncomfortable. The result of this is a nanny state where people are made to memorize lots of safety rules without being expected to think about why these rules were given to them.

Some people are so sensitive and get offended easily but that only depends on the situation. They feel offended easily because they took things so seriously and they are uncomfortable on any circumstances.

We have differences as human, we must always be concious of what we say and what we do. Respect is always the highest form of good manner.

We have differences as human, we must always be concious of what we say and what we do. Respect is always the highest form of good manner.

I think that the reason why is because of our culture today. We now feel entitled we mask everything through feminism, or for human rights but really we are overusing and misusing the power of these beliefs and activities. What we should do is to have a clear education on what is and what is not and be mindful that the opinion of others matter but do not neccessarily mean that they are against us

Our world has been developed by technologies and even the personal traits of people will changed. People feel so offended by everything nowadays because of what they've been acquired in social media. For example, they red a post in social media and they reacted quickly without thinking that they are not part of it. This characteristics has been the characteristics of individuals.

from what I've seen with people, they mostly get offended when something hits their core beliefs about themselves. that could be because of something general like religion or race, or something more specific and personal, for e.g., a person who relishes in his leadership skills, believes it to be the one of his strong suits, would easily get offended if someone bettered him at that. It all stems from the insecurity inside, the feeling that what the other person may be saying could actually be true. This leads to the person to get offended, which kind of works like a denial-defence mechanism, to protect the persons inner identity and integrity.
Atleast this is what I've observed in people around me.

We can't really know for sure what offends other people because they're different from one another. Though i kind of agree that some are being over righteous especially in this age of social media. Information i think is way too easily spread that it also would be easier to deliberately offend people with insensitive comments.

Somehow when social media boost up every person has got their position and rights on their own. Now it doesnt matter what you say or what you do everyone will say something about anything. We are living in this generation where in if you say your fart smells bad they will get offended and when you say its smells good you will bombarded.

This, we live in an age where most people use facebook and they are so used to hear nothing but cheers on their actions and their beliefs that when someone express a different view they cannot tolerate it, also with social media everyone feels like they are a rock star and that their opinion are gold when in fact no one cares.

I feel you bro i guess this is the cause of watching to much Tv drama most of these people are teenagers in todays age you can't even post a thing cause some people might get hurt. They may think high and mighty of themselves and doesn't accept any opinions from others as long as they see it as wrong. They're  more like drones that can't think logically i guess after watching to many dramas in televisions they were also influenced by it then made their life look like one unknowingly. Some cause of this is social media, people has been treated nicely in social media platforms and if something goes against their beliefs they immediately get offended by it.

I understand where you're coming from! People nowadays gets easily offended by personal views and beliefs.  It's like it's so bad to  have an opinion and we should just all not believe in anything. It's ironic thought how they mask it with what they say respect, but hope they would also respect other's views and not take it personally! Where has this overly sensitive emotional state came from anyway? We all have rights and emotions are valid becaue it we have different experiences and backgrounds. But hey, being offended in almost everything blurs out the line between what is right and wrong. Hope we soon get back to being rational and balance out these emotions.

Well because theoratically speaking, it seems that people might think you are just draghing some attention along or just asking some kind of sympathy and attention among readers. Well I do to sometimes when it is already nonsense, but I don't actually speak for it or comment anything, I just keep it within me and just don't mind, everyone has its own business, so for me as much as possible I don't want to interfere with it.

Its because some people are close minded and they have forgotten to just smile or laugh at it if it does not a big deal at all. It isn't really necessary to share your opinion as long as it does not concern you but for little things, we should not just react and argue later

I think it's the effect of staying to much on social media. Since social media sites like facebook, twitter, etc. became famous almost all people became judgmental and triggered easily. It's just like they're over using their freedom to speak their own minds. Just like when you post something stupid, and someone would say something good or bad and even some people would even argue because of other's comment. This kind of attitude that they do on social media were sometimes carried out in the real world when their dealing with people personally.

Some people are just close minded or even get affected by things easily. I mean if you were offended you really deserve respect from the people who offended you. That's how things should go. But, in our generation now, people look at them as if their high and almighty. People are swallowed by pride. Some would even get angry instead of apologizing if they commit mistake.

Blame it all on the PC culture. Sure, decency is at least expected in public discourse but PC has gone so far that the mere mention of things they deem offensive and you immediately get labelled various unflattering titles. Everything should be open for discussion.

The only "safe space" needed is a space where anyone can share their views, whatever those are and no matter how offensive that seem to others, provided they are not attacking anyone personally .

I don't think there's any way to NOT offend those. Our very existence as NOT them is offensive enough.
