Rack mountable rigs

Hello all
I work in a data center and I finally talked my boss into letting me use half a cabinet for miners, since the power is all inclusive in the leasing agreement with Switch. only thing is they must

A: Be rack mounted in the cabinet
and
B: Have PSU(s) (2 preferably) built into the unit.

anyone happen to know some good rigs that will fit the bill? I have been looking at a Spondoolies (SP20 I think?), Cointerra, Blackarrow x3. since I only have half a rack to work with i'd like the units to push around the 2TH mark.

Have you looked at Grey Matter Cases ( https://www.miningrigs.net/product-category/server-cases/ ).

They have a all in 1 Rack mount shelf in a 6U format designed to secure 3 Bitmain's Antminer S7/S9 & 3 power supplies.  Hash power could be 3x 4.7/13.5 (totaling 14.1 / 40.5 ) TH/s respectively, depending how you configure them.

Spondoolies would be the SP31/35 for a rack-mount unit, which will exceed your target hashrate IIRC in a single unit (I think they were 4u).

 Nobody currently makes a rack-mount miner AFAIK - so you probably would have to go with a rack-mounted shelf setup.

 The only miner I am aware of that used more than one PS in the unit was the Spondoolies SP50, but those are bloody rare HUGE (11 u or some such) and may not have ever actually been sold (though I remember Spondoolies stating that a few had been BUILT, they seem to have kept them for "internal" usage after they got bought out).

 Antminer S3 units would probably also fit your bill, but I'm pretty sure it would take 2 or 3 of them to get to 2TH.

ANYONE offering a SP50 for sale is a scammer and looking to take your coins, buyers beware.

Thank you for the information folks. been watching ebay for awhile now Spondoolies 30/31's are hard to find it seems.. I just might be forced to buy a retro fit shelf, much to my dismay

Some forum members were selling these recently if I remember correctly. If you make a post wanting to buy one in computer hardware on this forum you could probably find yourself one at a good price as these miners are now obsolete in most cases.

Almost tempted to offer my uber-rare AMT/Bitmine.ch A1 rig that Josh Zipkin finally sent a few folks. Ordered Feb 2014 for $4000, finally arrived in late August.  1THs, 4U high rack mount (still have the removable ears) w/built-in 1.200W PSU. Ran it for almost 2 years w/zero issues until retiring it to use the power for more efficient Ants.

Again -- almost tempted but just looks too damn cool with the LED fans I put in it...


Or -- want an s4? I still have 2 of them, 2.25THs. Also have 2x s2's that are 1THs each... All are rack mount cases. I can let 1-2 of them go I suppose...

Final bit -- you DO know that the rack mount miners are heavy right? Cannot be supported only by the front ears!

All that aside though -- personally I'd go with using a rack mount shelf and 3x NEW Avalon 741's. They look good and 3 side-by-side gives room for the PSU's to be on the same shelf.

Oh - and each is over 7THs and pulling only 1.1kw...  Canaan

I don't think SP got "bought out" I think they went tits up, but that is inconsequential.  According to SP themselves, no SP50's were ever made.

 SP got bought out or merged or some such, then the COMBINED company went bankrupt ballpark a year later - the COMBINED company was supposedly working on creating a HUGE farm, but apparently took way too long getting significant hashrate deployed and ran out of money.


 Rack mount miners shouldn't be much if any heavier than my Nikko Alpha III power amp - that put the power transformers in the back of the case, but has a nice THICK front plate.
 If you design the case right (most current 4u cases are too cheap and use too thin of metal) you can support a heck of a lot from just the front panel.

 I should correct that earlier post, it's *S4* (or S2) that was rack mount not *S3* in the Antminers.

Ja. Heavy gear with a nice thick solid panel can hang well but still are a pain to mount/remove if they are not supported. Miners like the AMT/S2/S4 use thin 18ga ears held on with 3 small screws so...

All my rack stuff is on shelves or rails except the lightweight 24-port switch. I don't really trust the torques from front-mounted stuff.

The S4 was a darn good miner. If you get one that can undervolt (I think it was removed later?) they can be made more efficient. Not S7 territory, but approaching S5 at least, and not nearly as loud.

That said, the 135-chip S7 can undervolt to approaching T9/741 efficiency. Honestly I'd stay away from S9 and T9 if possible, they're way too power-dense, the chips run hot and they tend to break down. Spondoolies rack gear, in my experience, had the same problem. Avalon/Canaan builds their stuff more sturdily than Bitmain does, which means a higher upfront price but it'd probably pay itself back in longevity without warranty concerns.
