I am just tired of trying to guess the password for the seed...and I erased all my backups that had the seed on them.  I did it on purpose...i thought .25 BTC would never really be something I wished I could get at a year or so ago...now it is driving me crazy!  So, I can't bring myself to delete $1600...but I would give it to someone....and if they knew how to crack my simple passwords (brute force) they would have a nice treat.  If they wanted they could send some back...but I am just looking to stop wracking myself trying to remember a password I obviously cannot.  Time for it to end!  I guess I could get someone else to just delete the wallet, but I thought why not see if someone wants it before it comes to that.  It is an 2.8.2 wallet.

Anyone here would love an extra .25 BTC but first.  You mentioned that you erased the drives.  Does that mean you wiped those drives or simply deleted the files?  Deleted files may be recovered easily in some instances.  Are you beyond even desiring taking a stab at that?

How simple is simple? Are we talking <10 characters? only letters and numbers? If so, it's possible that you could brute force that... anything longer or more complicated and the odds reduce significantly...

basically wrote zeros to drives...gone.  it would have been a simple password less than 10 characters...i normally use something simple but obviously I outsmarted myself.  I am on a Mac and feel comfortable in the terminal...but how to brute force?  dunno where to start.  I have read some stuff online but didn't know how realistic the outcome would be and investing more time to this without success would not make me a happy boy!  That is why I offered to give it before deleting it.  I am out of my league, I mean I had the rainbow tables in 2006 but I am way too rusty to crack hashes now...i think.

You'd write a script that checks every possibility starting from the shortest. If you can confirm that alphanumerics were used and that there are less than 10 of them. If someone has a GPU they would be able to crack it in a few hours/days if enough power can be dedicated to it.

i understand that this can be done...i just am not the one with the skills...soooooo, if you want it and have the skills, let me know how to get the wallet to you.  if you feel like giving me something back, great...if not...i will be deleting it so I don't have to kick myself over ever day I see BTC go up and my brain get older.

I will just say that time is limited....

I have no GPU so it won't really work for me to try to alter it.
If you have a good idea as to what the password could be (such as length) then email me it if you wish. I'd try and send you as close to the full amount back minus my computer's computation power needed.

I will say that only do this is you have exhausted all other leads and check HCP doesn't want to give it a go first.

Also, email accounts aren't very secure either so...

You could send a message to https://walletrecoveryservices.com/, see if he can help you. If you have any idea what the password can be, he might be able to find the right combination.

If you're really done trying, you can just upload the wallet to a public location, post the link here, and whoever cracks it first "wins"! It will all depend on your password though, if it's strong enough, it's not worth the electricity you need to crack it.
