In this interview, Vinny Lingham of Civic got pushed into a lot of corners by the panel. John Carvalho asked the question, why do we need this token? Why can't people simply use Bitcoin for this service? Isn't it purely greedy to be selling a token that will appreciate in value purely because of scarcity and speculation when we could just be using Bitcoin?

I think it's an interesting question and I've asked myself the same question. However, it seems to me that this would discount pretty much every coin out there besides Bitcoin and Ethereum, wouldn't it?

How do tokens actually benefit the users if the same value can be exchanged with existing currencies?

Is there any actual value to the Civic token, or any alt currency?

I don't know how I feel about this yet. What do you think?

I keep asking myself the same question from time to time.
A few months ago I thought that tokens that bring dividends from business profit is a very interesting application.
But now after SEC started to work on regulation of ICOs and tokens... I am confused about the future of tokens.

tokens that bring dividends from business profit aka ICOs
tokens that will be exchanged for coins on a future network aka MAIDs
vs.
coins of independent blockchains [inflationary by design]
