An aide to Russian President Putin seeks to raise $100 million through an ICO of his company in a bid to help dethrone China as the country with the biggest Bitcoin mining industry. Putin has warmed up to blockchain technology, Ethereum in particular, and has extended support for its adoption through the help of local partners. Many believe that these developments indicate Russia’s predisposition to replace USD with Bitcoin as a reserve asset.

Russian Miner Coin

One of Putin’s aides on all matters pertaining to technological security co-owns a company seeking to raise $100 million worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum by holding an initial coin offering for its token, Russian Miner Coin. On its website, RMC claims that their investors will own rights to 18% of its total revenue earned using the company’s mining equipment. Russian official Dmitry Marinichev said, “Russia has the potential to reach up to 30 percent share in global cryptocurrency mining in the future.”

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

wonder why every article that has Russia in it has to be somehow connected to Putin?
"one of Putin’s aides on all matters pertaining to technological security co-owns a company" who? what is his name
what makes you think he is an aid "on all matters",sigh
and Putin meeting (more like them shaking hands somewhere on his way to the conference) with one of the Etherium cofounders
doesn't make Kremlin involved in an ICO of 100 million dollars, which is simply nothing compared to the amounts of money
required to be even close to scratching China's dominance in this area
also replacing dollar with an uncontrollable cryptocurrency like bitcoin is simply retarded,do you really think Putin is retarded?

Mass production is China's game. But seems like Russia will win this in this case as the very government is supporting the movement unlike in China there is little support for miners. In fact, in China miners get stumped by the government if they find the smallest violation. I guess Russia will likely open the doors for cryptohaven for us.

The original four members of the Ethereum team were Vitalik Buterin, Mihai Alisie, Anthony Di Iorio, and Charles Hoskinson,

so I think Vitalik must have a hand in this Huh The USA should have made this move a long time ago, because they have the

technological capabilities to design and manufacture their own ASIC chips in Silicon Valley and with government subsidies,

they would have had a huge advantage over other countries.  Huh Roll Eyes

An ICO even ambitious is not kind of news from Russia that could change landscape in cryptoworld.
What I would get as a sign of state support polices is set up a range of academic programm based on unversity facilities aiming blockchain technology. Funds and sites with excessive cheap power are not enough to challenge mining buisiness in China.

Perhaps Russian leadership would view Bitcoin mining operations as a way to create additional 'natural' resources for their country. It appears that the cost of electricity in Russia is not quite as low as China but still inexpensive. https://www.ovoenergy.com/guides/energy-guides/average-electricity-prices-kwh.html A Bitcoin mining operation in northern Russia would provide significant cooling benefits as well.
