They said amount more than $1k account is disabled. They want me to send passport and stuff. This is my second account. My first account I didn't have to go through this. I created 2 accounts because I want to separate money for different partnerships.

I had the same problem but I gave them all the documents they needed like proof of identity and proof of address and I had my account available again for deposits and withdrawals. Ever since the market boom, the exchanges have been becoming more strict lately.

It would also help to declare that you have other verified accounts on other exchanges. It makes it easier for them.

Bittrex customer support is unhelpful since their start. But if you want to remove limitations from your bittrex account, you must provide them all documents.
It is compulsory in their terms and once they verify documents, your account would be in free mode with noticeable future support.

You do have to go through the verification process, in order to withdraw and deposit again.

Otherwise, you could try to contact support via their slack channel here: http://slack.bittrex.com/. I've heard that a few people got their limitations lifted without any sort of verification when they ranted about it on the slack channel. Have no idea about the legitimacy of these claims though, but it's worth a try in my opinion since it's free to do anyways.

I'm pretty sure that accounts on bittrex registered before a certain date have higher limits than accounts registered after a certain date. However, their support docs are quite unclear. I've used my bittrex account for a year now, and i have stored way above the limit without having my account disabled. See here: https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/231701788-Withdraw-Limits-and-Troubleshooting

Fuck this.

Some people go 8 days without reply

I should have used poloniex instead. Never have this sort of problem with them. What the fuck. They ask for passport and other identification. It's a small account with 3 btc. They never said that anyone holding more than $1k requires that. What the fuck is going on.

I think Bittrex changed its rule and required everyone even old accounts with them have to update their accounts and have to go through sending important details like an ID and your picture to verify your account.

Browse through this forum and you'll see how many people have their funds stuck in there. It's not for nothing that a whole lot Poloniex traders have ditched that exchange for Bittrex. At this point it's safe to say that basically every exchange taking itself seriously, and want to prevent itself from walking into troubles with the government, have to start forcing people to verify themselves. It's insanely annoying for sure, but there is no other way to deal with this situation. That being said, 3BTC isn't exactly a small amount anymore in terms of its fiat value - at current rates we're talking about $12,000 in total. If you don't want to expose yourself to whatever entity, you can pay someone else to use his information and ID scans, etc.

I asked a friend of mine who also has an old account in Bittrex which was opened on 2014 or 2015, and he said that he didnt have to go through any identity verification up to this day. He says that some of his withdrawals were over 10,000 dollars sometimes.

Does anyone have any opinion why old accounts are not flagged?

It will happen in the future, as explained here: https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/215282838 :

Our third phase is to require every account to at least be basic verified.  The time frame for that is TBD.

I can only suspect it's because if a verified account has been active for so many years with zero history of fraudulent transactions or irregularities, then it's probably seen as a legitimate account. New accounts might be treated as risky and unpredictable.

On the other hand, another reason might be evolving KYC/AML procedures. Those procedures were probably not introduced and implemented a few years ago. Today exchanges are feeling the pressures of government intervention in their operations and this might be a motivating factor in being compliant.

Since there is no choice and customer supports sucks, then go with the best option which is verification. New accounts are facing new implementations about verification limits and they issued a noticed about that.

Since exchanges are now being watched, expect heavy regulations applied to them, same with their clients, users and customers. I see it's not a bad idea to give them your personal info. It's just for references just in case.

This was expected by me really. Soon we will see all of the US based exchanges become compliant with the demands of the US regulators. The new up and coming SEC rules on cryptocurrencies and ICOs will make sure of it.

Which will piss off old time users completely!

The future is decentralized exchanges which can live on something like the Lightning Network or Prism.
That way draconian government legislation pushed for by the banksters, becomes irrelevant.

I dont share your enthusiasm for making banks and governments irrelevant because of cryptocurrencies' ability to disrupt. The same technology can be used by them to oppress and enslave us too.

Yeah, but this doesn't erase the fact that they were acting as an MSB for so long without any licenses. They still don't have any MSB licenses. They are just trying to tighten AML/KYC. And nobody knows if their measures now will be good enough for the US government.

The bigger problem for me is that I don't trust an exchange like Bittrex to store my ID documents securely. Coinbase and Gemini, maybe, but who the hell are these Bittrex and Poloniex people? Unlicensed exchanges behind shell companies and names of people we don't know...

Yeah and whats funny is that these same people who keep calling for the disruption of the banks and the government regulators will be the same people who will be the fastest to ask for the government's help if they were scammed by an unlicensed exchange.

That makes me think that some of the people here lack education and they are also ignorant.
