I think it must have gotten off track when checkpoint server was offline or something like that, as it had plenty of live nodes it was trying to connect to they just were so out of synch with it that either they hung up on it or it hung up on them until there were none left that would connect.

I restarted, maybe deletingt blockchain to let it get new one not sure now how drastic I was but whatever I did seemed to work.

Checkpoint server protect only from intentional fork and doublespend. From accidental fork (pool lost connection to main chain and continue mining)
protect function getblocktrust. When many wallets on default port, accidental fork improbable. That is why more users must set port for SCIFI in router manually.
I have 20 connections, because on default port. Another advice, if you was on fork and lost connections, wait 25 hours, because for others your IP banned for 24 hours,
and others IP also banned in your wallet.

I have not been able to get staking to work.

I have "splitthreshold=500000000" as my unitedscifi.conf but there is no indication that any staking is happening at all.

Open your wallet and check the 'arrow up' symbol in the bottom right. You're staking as long as the arrow is green. Hover with your cursor over this arrow symbol and it should show a tool tip 'Stake miner is active'.

If it's not staking...

- check if there are inputs ready to stake (open the 'Minting' tab)
- be sure your wallet is synced
- in case your wallet is password protected, unlock it (with the walletpassphrase command via RPC console)

Not 100% sure how to check there if it's staking. You could try 'getmininginfo'. If 'stakeinputs' is > 0 you know some inputs could stake.

You might check 'listtransactions 20' as well. These are the last 20 transactions to/from your wallet. Chech the 'generated' value. If it's 'true', it was mined. If you're not PoW mining on the same wallet, this sould be a PoS mined transaction.

Windows release compiled with leveldb, you need remove old database (save config and wallet) and re-download blockchain.
