Hi Guys, does it makes sense to have a Casascius Coin authenticated with lets say ANACS? Is there a better company? Or should I redeem the coin and get my bitcoin?

I have bought 1 Casascius Coin in 2012 and completly forgot about it. However, now reading the news of the high prize of bitcoins I remebered that I have one coin...

Any advise would be highly appreciated!

Thank you very much in advance.

Best,
Mathias

I suggest you sell it here instead of redeeming. People are willing to pay a premium on the coin so you'll waste money by peeling it Grin.

Don't redeem your bitcoin because you can have good profit by selling or auction loaded casascius coin rather than redeemed coin. Can you post here some pics so that we can rate your coin base on it's condition, Newbie can't post link here so a link to the picture is enough, If you planning to sell it, I'm happy to buy it with reasonable price based on the actual condition of the coin. Don't hesitate to PM me.  Wink

Thanks a lot for the swift reply and the advice. I will post photos later today or tomorrow.

I have seen some for sale graded/authenticated. Does it make sense for me to do the same? If so, which company should I use?

Don't forget it also has Bitcoin Cash, Clams, and some other 'airdroped' coins in it, its value is higher than just the bitcoin you initially purchased.

If you definfiely want to cash out and are happy with selling while BTC is at this price then I'd say sell it on here and don't get it graded. You'll get a premium for it since it's a Casascius. Grading it will cost you time and in that time it's possible that BTC will go down in value and you'll get less for it then you could have had you sold it now.

Right now ANACS is the only company that will grade physical cryptocoins for about $20 per coin.

There are others.

I'm sure I've seen a few rated by this operation - https://www.pcgseurope.com/?l=en

However ANACs is the one everyone judges them by so it's pretty pointless sending them anywhere else.

Looks to me that the coin has been cleaned.
Coin is still loaded: https://casascius.uberbills.com/?address=1CSZhbKr2rVnm5yYR7fBnTUZ2sgwB9a4md

Anyway OP, you can easily sell that coin for (I would imagine) 1.2 BTC or more, so if you're just going for the value, you might as well sell it here on the forum in stead of redeeming it.

Implying that ANACS does not authenticate physical bitcoins, as they don't deal directly with bitcoins. They only grade them as physical tokens.

Agreed, I thought miffman's answer was thorough while being concise and to the point.  The OP responded with the below statement (shortened) which showed he appreciated the information.  Smiley

Let's try to be civil and if you believe miffman's answer could have been improved there's nicer ways to put it.
