It's also a choice, but maybe you should think throughly. As far as I'm aware btc is still more stable than ETH, although ETH can bring you a significant profit in a short time but it still depends on luck. Btc will probably only make a really big profit when you invest long term but it's stable and people are investing more.

I would keep 70-80% of your BTC and put the rest into various alt-coins. if you have 100k of BTC, spread 30k around iota, neo, eth, qtum, nem, or whatever coins appeal to you. Perhaps take a look at some upcoming ICOs like Enigma, Datum, KickICO, BetKing, among others.

When investing, I’m a big fan of diversification of portfolios. I believe that both Ethereum and Bitcoin offer value, albeit in different ways.
Even though Ethereum is positioning itself to become a large platform, the fact that Bitcoin is so well known makes it the first place where people invest.
How about half of your investments for each?People often says never put all you eggs in one basket.

I would agree to convert 10% of your BTC to ETC and some good altcoins. The BTC price is so hot right now so keep it big and divert a small percentage to other altcoins.

70-80% is high ratio and need spend more to altcoin or other type investment if you not want putting all your funds to a place. I think you can try set 40% for holds BTC, 30% for holds altcoin and 30% for investing ICO project.

Why would bother on switching completely on ETH since you can still have both at the same time and as being said Diversification would really be the best move or thing to do. ETH do have potential to be the next big thing but still not an assurance but the possibilities are always there. I would stick on Bitcoin anytime since its the first crypto that do exist and seeing on its value it cant really be beaten up easily.

Diversification is alwas good. All in 1 coin is not the best choice..
Make 50% in BTC and 50% in other promising projects. ETH is promising too. I can expect very intresting things in November when Metropolis will come and Bitcoin Segwit2x hardforks.
ETH still have scalling problems, but recently I tryed to send throw this network and it was much faster and cheaper than throw BTC network anyway.
Mr.Poon the creator of Lighting Network and Raiden Network joined to the Plasma.io project a lot of different other projects on Ethereum.
Ofcourse now Bitcoin is growing , but 130% for month it is nothing comparing to some Ethereum ICO with +1000% grow. Dont get me wrong I also have BTC in my portfolio, but 130% for month in crypto nowdays is not the most impresive result. Is still good ofc.
Look yesterday OMG +80%, today BAT +40% . oX project launched with ZRX +120%
And this all is Ethereum tokkens...
Main top 50 coins now is ERC20 tokkens on Ethereum Network.
It is definetly worth to invest some in ETH or better to catch ICO train.

I would rather take some of the btc, move it to an exchange and short ethereum. Of course diversified is smart to reduce risk. But I don't think eth will be a good investment now.

It is not a good decision to convert all your bitcoin into Eth. So you can invest both, btc is still the best investment even short or long term investment but ofcourse if long term you can earn huge profit. Though eth is also has the potential so might good to invest both.

I'd actually be more interested in an opposite question, should i be converting my ethereum to bitcoin right now? Seems like the bitcoin surge isn't done and there is more money to be made on the btc side.

I'm not too sure if you, in terms of both potential benefits, or you can divide it into two to invest

Having a portfolio of diversified coins is good, but selecting them wisely is the best. In terms of converting btc to eth, At this time it is not so nice, because btc's value is increasing. Eth is a good alt coin, who has it's potential because it has grown and reached 300$, and if you are willing to exchange do it, but maybe not now, has a lot of is happening with btc in terms of it's value and in exchanging you can suffer loss.

I'm also a fan of diversification, beyond just crypto too. Crypto will be no more than 5% of my net worth. 85% is in index funds and 5% in individual stocks. Of the crypto portion, my split is: 30% BTC 30% Eth 40% Other alt coins. I think that's even too heavily invest in altcoins. I will be working on it to get closer to a 40/40/20 split.

I probably wouldn't, or probably just put 20% of my bitcoin in there. The thing is that it's bitcoin that is faster at earning profits and that's what I'm after anyway.

If you want cash in your hands at the end, you should go with ethereum but if you want world wide trillion dollar asset in your hands at the end, you should go with bitcoin.

I had converted part of my BTC to ETH in order to invest in the ICO's and new ventures. Diversified my investments in different coins and hopefully, my new altcoins get some value and pay back a nice profit. In BTC and ETH, I think BTC is better and valuable, lots of Hype on ETH, cant trust it.

well we know that the value of ETH is also increasing as well as the the value of BTC . ETH is now$300 and BTC$4300 , buying all coins as an asset is a good source of investment and will eventually be profitable but right now the increasing value of BTC is having more than that of ETH , if we buy ETH now by using bitcoins we may land up in loss . like if I buy some ETH now and see that the value of BTC had crossed $5000 and ETH is still in $350 or $300 then I would definitely end up in a loss. so I suggest what for the appropriate time when the value becomes stable at the max and then buy some ETH . you should keep records and observe the fluctuating value so hat you do not miss you window , or just wait till the ratio of increase in values of ETH and BTC become 1

Well it really depends on you if you really wanted to convert your bitcoins to ethereum now. Or turn yourself from bitcoin to ethereum. It depends on what you believe that will get you directly to your success or to your ideal success. You are right the Ethereums platform became large and became trusted by many alternative coins. So many partnership of both coins(eth and other coins). If you do believe in eth then go for eth, but if you believe in bitcoin go for bitcoin. What if the threadstarter believe in both, hence the question? I think the other question that you need to ask is how long do you intend to hold (short or long) after the conversion. I believe both can be for long term HODL anyway!
