Masternodes need VPS and making 25% a year and less with more MNs added, staking gets 25% a year no matter what, why bother?

I don't know where you are getting your stats buuutt


so no, they dont make <=25% but if we want to pretend you've done your do diligence you will know this is not where it ends for masternodes, but to just make it obvious

What % is needed? 100%? Or a super majority?

100% is wanted, 95% is probably max that is likely, but the more the better, older wallets actually go against network stability and do a little bit of fighting with the new wallets. Now one release is not a super big deal, its when the same thing happens the next release and the next one where it begins to be a real problem.

The Masternodes once all the stakers upgrade to the new wallet will increase a bit more but looks like we are also growing in the number of masternodes.
Once we move onto a fully fixed PoSv3 or another algo that is more stable and even go full PoW if we need to to protect the chain,...
Then the Masternodes rewards will be where they should be. At that time expect an increase of near 1000%

Originally we were planning on mns being a lot less return than what we want now, yes, but thats still a ton more than <=25%

If you want to wait until we have that 1k% increase then you do you but you might not be able to afford a masternode after the announcement that awards have been adjusted, also ironically even if you can afford it, you wont get that 1k% reward increase when you start the node it takes a week to become a trusted node.

Yes, that would work quite nicely, then the only thing you would need to worry about is the masternode forking

FYI:
I found this method useful and time saving:
To keep from having to go through the constant reindexing I every few days
make a copy of the kore folder after a reindex and then test to make sure it starts properly.
Then once I have that I replace the kore folder whenever restarting the wallet to get the correct balance to show.
This saves much time and it allows for a 1 time restart of the wallet rather than two and you dont go through the reindexing.

I have a question. So Masternodes are meant to provide stability and help the network. The collateral provided is to help ensure there are no bad actors among other reasons. A MN owner should be viglent in making sure his MN is stable and up to date.

Out of date MNs will degrade the network and hinder advances (as the situation we are currently in) - at what point do we consider these MNs bad actors and take action?

I got stuck last week as well, if updating your nodes and reindex doesn't work (mine didn't). I deleted my blocks and let it redownload.. That worked. (backup your wallet obviously)

I grabbed the nodes from the explorer.

9 Million have not been mined yet. The 9 million are given for block reward during PoS and Masternodes get a large portion of that.
