You know what? I actually agree with that. Also I have been one of the people who proposed alternative, "catchier" names in the past, I think I proposed calling it "HALO" back then (quite the opposite of dark and shady, you see? Wink But still protective). But both jbg (dev) and mandica (founder) pointed out that changing the brand also can have some negative impacts on the project. I am all open for change, and I agree that SpectreCoin is not an optimal name brand-wise. But sometimes one needs to be really cautious with change, because it tends to break things!  Cheesy Whereas keeping the old name won't break things in the near future, so that we can focus on development, first.

If you try to discuss this question in Slack (again), you will see quite some opposition, but of course you are still welcome to check in! Wink But honestly this question has been discussed almost as often as changing the website, so it's also kind of tiring to discuss this once again.

And btw., mostly for the developers and long-time members, Spectrecoin has also become some kind of "identity" that one has become used to, therefore such a change would also require to change one's own identity and self-perception of the project. So it's not so simple.

Yeah, makes sense. In any project or organization, there is always a tradeoff: To get started, you need a core group or community of dedicated people that are willing to work tirelessly because they care and believe when no one else does. The project wouldn't exist and couldn't succeed without such people. But then, as the project grows, it evolves and its needs change, and it can be difficult for the core group to adjust to that and accept it, precisely because they are so personally invested. As a project matures, personal investment can switch from being an asset to being a challenge to further evolution.

Thanks for the conversation on this. I respect that it's been discussed before, so I won't bring it up further; you know how I feel (not that my opinion is worth any more than anyone else's!).

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Hey.
how many coins do you need for a POS?
Can I install a purse on the Rapsberry Pi 3?

1) Look here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/FAQ#7-how-can-i-stake
2) Yes. If you mean the wallet, that is.

are there any dev updates coming on xspec in december?

I would imagine beachguy will keep us updated, he has being doing a great job as of late.

I am just waiting patiently for the 1.4 wallet which will open up the path to 2.0. The wallet itself has some cool features that you probably would not associate with a normal coin wallet release.

looking at the previous page 1.4 appears to be close and being actively worked on. At this point I think I would be happy even if it is a beta which appears in 2017 and not final.

the rumblings from the U.S and U.K governments on crypto regulation and information disclosure make the development of this coin more important as time passes even if the more mainstream holders of non-privacy focused coins don't really understand its implications.

FYI, The website is hideous. I had sent 4 people to it and all of them hated it and invested in PVIX because of their presentation. I don't know who is in charge of it but I am disappointed that my Good friends chose Pivx over XSPEC because of a crappy website.
Also, Jbg kicked me out of slack because of a dispute about marketing a few months ago and there is STILL no marketing of the coin, but I'm sure Jbg has a handle on it. Hopefully he does something with marketing by December 2018.
I would love to discuss that with him face to face someday.

Bring solutions, not problems.

The first step to solving a problem is identifying it.  Just saying.

I don't think silencing people who are expressing problems helps a project to succeed.

Here's hoping that the SpectreProject community will be one that welcomes candid discussion, including criticism and dissent, going forward.

How can I participate in the bounty program?

There is a bounty program very easy to win, if you have a Twitter account that is authentic,
(the account can not be created just for this, you must have more than 24 followers).
Search on Twitter: Leo Bitman, 1º follow to know about SpectreCoin, 2º ReTw for others to know,
and 3º you send a public address, (the ones start with the uppercase letter: "S")
and that is all, I will send you a "Free Sample of 10.00 XSPEC".
You can receive your 10 XSPEC, approximately in 2/4 days.

It is a very personal program, I just want to say that everything is still valid and that it will continue until 2018.

Well, it's SpectreCoin [xspec]...and a name change to anything else
simply isn't going to happen.  Smiley

xspec is going to have some competition soon in the form of tokenpay. Stealth, addresses, ring signatures, tor and using the bitcoin block chain. Seems like a once in a blue moon type ico opportunity and the bonuses and insane.

TokenPay copied the SpectreCoin wallet and also its blockchain, we are the originals they are the copy.
There is no competition, if they ever succeed, they owe us a public recognition, now they lie when they assign their base to Shadowcash.
TokenPay is simply a copy of SpectreCoin with another name.
Pride for SpectreCoin, shame for TokenPay.
