Why does the client rescan on startup even when it just created a new wallet? Seems unnecessary!

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Yes. Sorry the lack of details. I am actually on 0.8.2rc. Just in case you beat the odds and generate an address already in use.

Would be fun, although as they say, you have better chances of winning the lottery, it will be once in a human(race) lifetime to generate an existing address and play around with supposedly thousands of coins

I doubt it will happen that often. But I suppose it is difficult to predict how long the human race will last

Not an intentional behavior, it's a side effect of a recent bugfix where recently salvaged wallets would not automatically rescan.

Thanks gmaxwell. BTW you live in the Raleigh area, right? Should come to the meetup.
