Using old version of Bitcoin Wallet after Fork

Hi All,

I am using Bitcoin Core version: 0.13.1.0 - Bitcoin Core (GUI node for Bitcoin). I was using it successfully prior to August 1st. While I was on vacation in August, the hard fork happened and blockchain splitting occurred.

I haven't opened my wallet since the fork happened and I wanted to know if there will be any issues if I open this version of Bitcoin Core Wallet now? Will the coins be safe?

Yes, the coins are safe. It is impossible for a long block reorg right now due to the fork. Bitcoin's blockchain has a higher difficulty weighage as compared to the Bitcoin Cash's and there are blocks with differing rules that the Bitcoin reference nodes wouldn't recognise as valid.

Replay attack is pretty much prevented.

Also, how can I get the Bitcoin Cash coins since I do own my private keys (the wallet)?

It's definitely recommended to upgrade, not due to the fork but due to the general improvements over the version.

You can either import it into Electron Cash or just install the Bitcoin Cash client and use it from there. Just to say, there is obviously risks associated with running and/or importing private keys into a foreign client. You have to check to make sure that you get the client from the legitimate source and can verify it.

1. Go to %appdata% or your data directory.
2. Copy out your entire Bitcoin folder into another location.
3. Download Bitcoin Cash and point the data directory at the folder you've copied out.

Close the other thread if possible.

Yes. Bitcoin Core is doing a segwit soft-fork and Bitcoin Cash is doing a hard-fork as a response. Soft-frok means that it is backward compatible, while the hard-fork means that it is not. So by definition, you can run the old client, but you should upgrade anyway for many reasons.
