Poloniex Account hacked, coins traded away

Hi,

My coins were traded away by someone hacking into my account and trading the coins against himself. You can find the full story here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1988476.msg19800513#msg19800513

Since then, I had raised a ticked and also reported it to the police here in the UK. The ActionFraud Police (National Fraud & Cyber Crime Reporting Centre) have been trying to contact poloniex but they have not been responding. Poloniex have since stopped responding to me as well from the time I asked them for contact details for the police to contact them. I had lost coins in access of $17000 which is a lot of money to me.
 
All, can you please suggest what is the best course of action now, Poloniex is not responding.

indeed,
many people have a problem with them lately,
and yeah they're robbing you and others using 'unique' method in my opinion.
unclose loan,blocked account,pending withdrawal and else(which is i believe they're the one who did it to you).
so it's not surprising for us to see something like this.

have you tried to contact other victims as well ?
who knows what will happen if you guys together and reporting it,before they gone.
they're still running their service and i believe you guys can track them and settle your problem with them

Sadly, there is nothing much you can do at this point (regardless whether Poloniex responds or not) because this happened two months ago and by now, the hacker probably withdrew all the money he had, used them in other exchanges or mixed them and he is now untraceable. It's unlikely to have your money back but all I can say right now is to make sure you don't store large amounts in exchanges from now on and If you do, use 2FA.

Friend, sorry to hear your account was hacked. I regularly use poloniex for trading purpose but till now everything was smooth. I haven't experienced such an issue with poloniex support. I think it must be some hacker who hacked your account by getting your password. And for that poloniex wont be responsible. Infact they wont read that type of mails because daily they will be receiving thousands of mails. I suggest you not to use same passwords for all the sites. And don't signup in any forms or sites that you see in this forum . If you are doing so, use separate passwords and username for each sites so that hackers wont be able to hack your accounts.

Exactly! No matter how you nag them about or whatever they can't bring your coins back since the negligence is in you. As we know, bitcoin transactions can be hard to track since a lot of mixers are present to offer their services no matter the motive or purpose in doing so. Also, I suggest to pass this case to respective authorities and they may find some flaws that the hacker failed to see.

It is true that all transactions are public but it doesn't mean that the owner's identity of those adresses and those involve in a specific transactions are known or can be known.

It is not the dark side actually. This side of BTC has its own disadvantages and advantages. It is up to the user as how they would wield it.

compare this with a current account in a bank, you would have got a full refund if you can prove that you were not the one withdrew/spent that money.

so people should hold their assets in a way balanced in respect of security.

Sorry to hear that OP. I dont have any solutions as per other posts, but just so that others could learn form this, how do you think the hack occured? Was it a physical compromise of your pc/malware? Was 2FA activated? This will help others in a way to get some good out of this situation.

Again sorry for your loss and I do hope the authorities can help you out in some way.

I don't think that they are scamming directly, however there have been numerous reports that Polo has a lot of issues lately, similar to this. Actually, not only Polo but other trading exchanges as well. If the account was really hacked then I don't that that OP can get his funds back. That's why we are told not to put all your funds in a exchange because you don't have control of your private keys, and if you don't control them, it is not yours. I suggest to the OP that the only thing he can do is to call the attention of Polo, but I don't know if Polo will return his fund, the chance of it happening is very small. I'm sorry to break you the news.

This is what happened to my friend. He lost 21 Ether and was selling other coins. Until it is exhausted. It just hurts to think that your hard work will be gone. He says it is to be polyphonic. And I also believe that many of these issues are coming out and I think that many have lost confidence in Poloniex. So I did not really use it for my trading. Better at Bittrex is sure you will not lose money. Do not expect your money to return. That's why it's worthless to start over and move to another exchanger.

What is your suggestion apart from not using it?

I doubt if there's a best course of action now, stolen bitcoins are always difficult to recover.
