I got the ryzen 1800x  as it does hash the shit out of xmr.

From what I hear the 1950X does about 1300 h/s for XMR.  So if the 1800X does 530 and makes $1.40 then the 1950X should make $3.40 a day.  The ROI time would be close for both chips and makes it very tempting.

yeah and i did not over clock some are getting 600 with the 1800x

i had the gpu idol and was using 100 watts .  I have lower powered gpus so I will explore a few ways of using the rig.

if I decide to do better amd rigs down the or maybe a server rig I will be sure to post builds.

Buy solar thinks we will  add the second array in three stages.

so 9-13kwatts now
18-26 kwatts Nov.
27-39 kwatts March
36-52 kwatts july

Testing multiple mobo setups  and having a shit load of mobos empty waiting on cards is okay for me. as  we have expansion down the road in mind.

Goal is 3 water cooled 1080tis or maybe water cooled 1070's
and 1 water cooled  ryzen 1800x

done riser free.

why  because I want to encourage people to build  all kinds of rigs.

I want every gamer  to mine in his sleep and water cooled rigs are quiet.

I have no clue what was said at the end of the last thread but I have a little bit of experience with this.  This summer I decided to get into mining, built everything from the ground up and started out with 2 gtx 1080s, then added a 1060.  The computer is in my room and it was extremely loud and hot.  I ended up buying 2 of the EVGA hyrbid coolers for the 1080s, which quieted things down, but too cut down on noise I finally bought a bunch of Noctura fans to replace the fans on the radiators and one of the case fans, along with a Corsair heat sink to replace the POS intel fan.  I can report that its nice and quiet, but the heat is the big elephant in the room.  Obviously it has cooled the cards tremendously, but has just moved the heat from the case to my room.  All said and done, I probably spent an extra $350 to make my small rig quiet, but it was well worth it.  There is no way I could have lived with a jet engine running day and night!

Also I'll add that EVGA often sells water cooled 1070s in their b-list section if you end up going that route.

many people want 8-12 gpu they used to do 6.

me 2,3,4 riser free.

I got the ryzen 1800x  as it does hash the shit out of xmr.

I am tempted to buy a thread ripper 24 core  cpu miner and this board

but this would be more money  it will fit 4 waterblock cards easy  and the nice cpu

but my build  will do the lesser cpu rzyen 1800x and 3 easy water block cards.

I haven't seen mention of any low-end AM4 processor miner builds like the Biostar TB350-BTC Pro along with an AMD A6-9500.

Is there no interest in 6-GPU platforms any more?   Under $200 for MB & CPU.

https://www.amazon.com/Biostar-Motherboard-TB350-BTC-Express-Retail/dp/B072JGJ8NS

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B074BGXW9T/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1504224804&sr=1-1

Phil how would you recommend expanding out your 3 card builds

Would you leave one card? 2 cards? On the board and what's the best riser to be used with them in your opinion

What's your opinion on the stability of the rig after adding riders onto the gigabyte D3 270

congrats Phil ... thread #6 -- wow time past by fast!

plus Scrypt, X11 and SHA256 Asics hosted in Canada

Could you explain more about how the Asics hosted in Canada works? Do you buy miners and ship them to Canada and then pay a fee for hosting? You can pm me with the info if you'd like.

Buy direct from Bitmain, Canaan, etc -- and ship to Labrador, NFL-Canada-where its winterish 70% of the time - DHL, Fedex, UPS no problems - just ensure to declare "Computer Equipment" in the shipping paperwork.

You need to factor in 5% Royal Canada Customs too.

Hosting fees vary depending on power consumption but I have a good deal with Cryptoboreas powered by cheap hydro power - been with them for over a year now. By year end, my group will have 500 ASIC miners hosted with them.

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

I am old well if 60 is old  I am old.

I realize the forum has people from 13 to 85.

I have done 3 to 5 thousand in experimental builds the last 2 years.

I don't have time to argue with insulting posts.

The build is very specific it will be a water cooled build

Goal is 3 water cooled 1080tis or maybe water cooled 1070's
and 1 water cooled  ryzen 1800x

done riser free.

why  because I want to encourage people to build  all kinds of rigs.

I want every gamer  to mine in his sleep and water cooled rigs are quiet.

yeah  I have 20,000 usd plus in mining gear paid off  earning me more then 1000 a month.

real expansion for me will be the new solar array. till then I build different gpu rigs.  with different models

You should take a look at the EKWB blocks that connect 3-7 GPU's all only using a single slot each Cheesy

60 years young Phil :-)

Thanks for continuing the thread - not many threads in Bitcointalk that is an interesting & worthwhile as your thread.

@zer0k - isnt that the Linus USD$25K rig -- 7 x R9 Nano with EKWB single block liquid cooling system?
The mobo is an Asus 2 x Xeon CPU if I recall -- but super expensive that board.

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

May i ask what the name of that EKWB block is? Are those modern GPUs? Thats a pretty compact build and ive been trying to search for it on their website but keep finding big water blocks for single GPUs.

This is really interesting.  I'm also wondering which motherboard that would be since you would probably need all 16x slots.

That build can be seen done in this Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXOaCkbt4lI

Parts list here https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/519293-7-gamers-1-cpu-ultimate-virtualized-gaming-build-log/

They used ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS motherboard.

Very cool build IMO,

Phil,
So I just wanted to pick your brain on what you would do in this situation.  I started mining earlier this year and have 5 rigs up and running (10x 1080ti  7x 1070 3x 1060 & 2x 1050ti)  My girlfriend and I are about to break ground on a new home on 14 acres, we live in Ohio so heat 6 months and AC 6 months.  I had planned on making a mining cave in the basement with dedicated ventilation.  I would like to expand to more GPU’s and possibly get into a couple of ASIC’s if possible in the near future.

After thinking about a mining room in the basement I am afraid that expansion could be an issue… My other thought was to set a 10x12 shed (zoning restrictions UGH!) near the house and have electric run to the shed.  Doing that, I would be able to vent it without relying on AC and would not have to worry about the noise in the basement or heat issues.  Obviously the shed would increase the cost over just making a room in the basement though…

As for electric, I had planned on starting off with 2x 30 amp 240 volt circuits and run PDU’s from there.  That would be more than enough to run what I have up and running right now and give me room for expansion.

What can you see as Pro’s and Con’s to either and which would you opt for in this situation?

FYI 60 is the new 40…
Thanks!

Its all about density i used to be fine with six but now with server psus i can turn a 36 gpu rack into 48 with still nice space between all cards and do 48 gpu thata 1000mhs  vs 1300 mhs

I think the mining graphics card should have only PCIE 1x connectors, so that you can connect to mother directly.

There are a few GPUs around with a PCI-E 1x connector - but they're low-performance stuff.

Mining GPU makers probably figure they need the 2-slot width to get enough cooling on the card so no point to a 1x connection.

That ASRock X399 board is nice, but DANG that's a lot of money for a mining rig motherboard.....

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

not ROI in 5 months unless im using it for something else

Yeah  I normally mod the threads  so when insults fly I quote the post and delete the offending post.

Last thread I missed modding it and  a few times the thread had abusive insulting or out of context posts.

I let it slide  but  todays 2 posts on my incomplete build using the ryzen 1800x made me decide to end the thread.

So back to normal with me having mod status.  in thread six.

I will post more on the complete ryzen 1800x build .
Phil, I apologise.
I was most likely the one that made you close the thread. My intention was definitely not to insult in any way, I just used language that was tainted by the few beers I had just had! It was meant as banter, not insult. Again, Sorry about that.

I like the water-cooled build.
As a matter of fact, I did one myself a few months ago. I have a think client in the living room that I use as htpc to connect to my NAS. One day I picked up my last two remaining R9 280X from 2014... and decided I should plug them onto that mobo. But being in the living room, I didn't want them to be noisy... so as they already had water blocks on, I added a pump a rad and some tubing, and off it went.

It looked cool, the little water-cooled mining htpc. But unfortunately those 280x's just produce too much heat. As the thing was tucked away in a cupboard, the heat couldn't be expelled well enough, forcing me to have the cupboard open, which led to noise.

I dismantled the thing shortly thereafter. But it was a fun experience.

Now I wouldn't do a water-cooled mining rig anymore. Too expensive. I'm anal about breaking even quickly. Hence why I laughed a bit too eagerly at the figures you were presenting with the 1800x (as well as the peeps out there buying a couple of USB mining sticks).

Good luck with the build!

Hey philipma1957
I think you can get more hashrate for your Ryzen 1800x

I have a 1700 and I'm having 570h on XMR - STAK CPU

You can use Ryzen Master to overclock a little and decrease the voltage

Phil,
So I just wanted to pick your brain on what you would do in this situation.

What can you see as Pro’s and Con’s to either and which would you opt for in this situation?

FYI 60 is the new 40…
Thanks!

Yeah I watched that one the other day, pretty interesting setup.  That was one of the ways I had thought about the basement room.  Have in input and an exhaust port with a blower to control heat.

The mining tent idea is good, but keep in mind those grow op inline fans are really noisy and have a lot of vibration.  I had one before but returned it, airflow is good but its wayyy too noisy.  Even with a box over the fan.

Also sold some coin at 4825!

Wow thread got busy.  Apology accepted. Dragonmike.  I was thinking of switching out the thread and the posts you did pushed me to do it.

I do a lot of different builds  to expand the options for mining.

The gigabyte d3 z270 can do five cards if you go riser.

Give me a minute I will post how to connect four or five to it.

five cards  3 riser 2 full = works  as tested by me  4x 1080ti's 1x 1070

The mining tent idea is good, but keep in mind those grow op inline fans are really noisy and have a lot of vibration.  I had one before but returned it, airflow is good but its wayyy too noisy.  Even with a box over the fan.

the best would be a separate facility altogether like a garage, shed or like me lease a warehouse - plenty of room and all the amps you can allocate.

I use 20amps per circuit or 3 x 6-7 x GPU rigs per circuit. Or 2 x 12/13 x GPUs mobos per circuit.

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

You should take a look at the EKWB blocks that connect 3-7 GPU's all only using a single slot each Cheesy

May i ask what the name of that EKWB block is? Are those modern GPUs? Thats a pretty compact build and ive been trying to search for it on their website but keep finding big water blocks for single GPUs.

They're called FC terminals

Lot's of different options for 3-7 card setups Cheesy
