Does anyone have experience with a continuous generator fueled with natural gas (or propane) for supplying their electricity needs for a small mining farm?  The type of unit We are researching would be similar to this one, perhaps smaller: https://www.centralmainediesel.com/order/General-Motors-21-kW-Generator.asp?page=GM21

We have space for it and as long as the natural gas well that already provides heat for the house can handle the extra load it would pay for itself in a matter of months.

no but I read specs for your model.  lets say you have free gas from the well  you will need to do maintenance every 500 hours or every 21 days.

I know motors ½ load is probably better setting then full load

so 42 amps at 240 volts = about 10kwatts  24/7 for 21 days with a pit stop of 3 hours to do maintenance

So 10 kwatts = 9 avalon 741's say 72th  that is  1800 in 3 weeks  so 4-5 months it is paid off

1 year warranty   means 7-8 months  of 'free' power

to pay off the 9 avalon 741's

maybe your good .

Yeah, your math looks similar to mine.  I figured that at ~50 Amps 240v we would pay off the purchase cost in electrical savings after 6-7 months.  I do have some experience with similar equipment when I was young and healthy and worked in that field, but these days we would need to pay for the installation, so that cost would likely add another 20% to the initial bill.

It needs to last 1 year to 18 months.

I have only used short run gear six to nine hour stuff.

Thoughts on pcie slot adapters (the kind that give you more slots by just plugging into one pcie slot)

Also any recommendations on a gpu rig frame / case for six cards ?

Any recommendation on PSU for 6x 1080 ti?

On another note, may I know what miner you guys are using for equihash?

On win10pro, am currently using nheqminer 0.5c and the following benchmark run seems rather low at stock(no-OC) for a gtx1060 3GB.
Code:
[12:45:34][0x00001cfc] Benchmarking CUDA worker (CUDA-DJEZO) GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (#3) M=1
[12:45:35][0x00001cfc] Benchmark starting... this may take several minutes, please wait...
[12:45:55][0x00001cfc] Benchmark done!
[12:45:55][0x00001cfc] Total time : 20130 ms
[12:45:55][0x00001cfc] Total iterations: 2000
[12:45:55][0x00001cfc] Total solutions found: 3723
[12:45:55][0x00001cfc] Speed: 99.3542 I/s
[12:45:55][0x00001cfc] Speed: 184.948 Sols/s

here is another one for gtx1060 6gb at stock(no-OC):
Code:
[12:58:13][0x0000005c] Benchmarking CUDA worker (CUDA-DJEZO) GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (#1) M=1
[12:58:14][0x0000005c] Benchmark starting... this may take several minutes, please wait...
[12:58:31][0x0000005c] Benchmark done!
[12:58:31][0x0000005c] Total time : 16814 ms
[12:58:31][0x0000005c] Total iterations: 2000
[12:58:31][0x0000005c] Total solutions found: 3738
[12:58:31][0x0000005c] Speed: 118.948 I/s
[12:58:31][0x0000005c] Speed: 222.315 Sols/s

I was expecting around 300 Sols/s at stock based on what I've read.
any guidance would be greatly appreciated. do i switch to ewbf?

Well all of this is only good and great with glorious end results as long as you live in US or Canada or EU and or China, all the countries with cheap hardware and cheap electricity. if I want to buy a GPU which you pay $500 in Canada I'd have to pay $1200 and if we use too much electricity the cost will increase exponentially. I'd like the coins with no or very little power consumption something that only requires hardware and internet connection. lol
These sanctions on my country are even targeting our condom factories.

I have seen them working on Asus Prime z270 and h270 boards with the latest bios. YMMV

Also any recommendations on a gpu rig frame / case for six cards ?
I recommend DIY option with a good guide at 1stminingrig. Barring that, steelshelves + zip ties to start with?

Any recommendation on PSU for 6x 1080 ti?

This one works well - EWBF CUDA Zcash miner for equihash coins.  This is also the one I use.
Nicehash Excavator is good too , but need some skills to setup the json config files.

evga 1060 3gb hynix   +100 core, +250 (50 effective) mem, 100% tdp - 285-295 sol
evga 1060 3gb hynix +120 core, +250 (50 effective) mem, 60% tdp - 250-255 sol
evga 1060 6 gb micron, +100 core, +250 (50 effective) mem, 60% tdp - 285-290 sol
Never tried the 6gb 1060 on 100% TDP.

You should be able to reach 300 sol on the 3GB with 100% TDP and 100 or 120+ on core. Change the miner app.
The one you use is pretty old nowadays , it has not been updated for long time. It was popular in late 2016.

appreciate the input, what about a server PSU? Doesn't seem to be one that fits well in the power range I need it's either a 2400 or a little too small

I'd go with at LEAST a 1000 or perhaps an 1100 (3 cards + MB + HD + etc) and at least an 850 but preferably another 1000 (other 3 cards) - TDP on the 1080ti starts at 250, and I suspect there is SOMEONE out there that has even higher from the factory.
Keep in mind that TDP is a TARGET, the card can AND WILL exceed it momentarily at times when the load level shifts.

I'd EXPECT occasional issues from running JUST 3 cards on an 850, that's VERY little room for spike handling, unless they are going to be significantly reduced TDP all the time.

An 850 is NOT going to be enough to run 3 cards AND the CPU/RAM/Motherboard/HD unless the GPUs are VERY MUCH REDUCED on TDP, and it's going to be iffy even THEN.

A 2400 watt server PSU would be plenty, presuming it has all the ATX connections you need to run the MB with AND enough PCI-E and "riser power" connectors - AND presuming you have 220 volts to run it on.

I have 220v setup

whats your opinion on gold vs plat -- my electric bill is the bane of my existence lol

I've found the cards run well @ 200 watts on nvOC -- but if you think there's a better efficiency sweet spot i'm all ears!

Also this PSU example only has 6 pins, but I need 8 pins ?

Is there a setting to disable that in the GPU?

pretty cool mobo adapter if you guys havent seen this already

Perhaps a bit off topic, but one of the reasons WHY I insist on positive pressure FILTERED air intake.

The antenna towers you can BARELY SEE on top of the ridge in the picture are about 1 mile from my door - and the bloody sky is GREY today.

FULL Moon last night was a rather ominous DARK orange (it should have been bright near-white), but the smoke got WORSE today.

The pic is giving me a 404 error, but based on the smoke you mentioned I'm guessing wildfires?  There are plenty of downsides to living in the NorthEast, but thankfully wildfires are pretty rare here.

I'd recommend those platinum server PSUs

This one comes with 6+2 pins at the card end of the cables http://www.parallelminer.com/product/2400-watt-power-supply-kit-for-gpu-mining-94-efficiency-200-240v-up-to-24-gpu

After testing on one rig I'm ordering another 4. Here's my two cents:

Pros:
Good value compared to decent 1000W+ ATX PSUs (in my region at least)
Lots of power overhead
Which also means you should be operating in the efficiency sweet spot
Run risers from a PCIE cable and drop the SATA-PCIE adapters
Compact size and the breakout board keeps the cabling tidy

Cons:
The small stacked fans are VERY loud if it gets hot. My rigs draw ~1100W and at 20˚C ambient it doesn't get loud at all.
Shorter warranty. But I trust server quality gear and will order a spare to have on hand.

If I was being picky:
The ATX replacement module has a screw on barrel plug on the PCIE cable which is a bit fiddly. Probably best to solder it together permanently.
The only C19 power cable I could easily source was more expensive than a regular kettle cord and had a 15A plug so I needed to change that to fit a domestic 10A socket. Both no big deal but a little more work if you were setting up lots of rigs.
