I think the cast miner works within Win10 virtual memory parameters and would be doing DAG type read-writes I bet.

If you are into fast video depository -- using SSDs will be expensive approach. You should consider a NAS with RAID-5 or RAID 1/0 type configuration. The HDDs like WD-Black on RAID is just as fast and cheaper to setup in a NAS box.

I like the idea of a NAS box for swap.    Assuming your network is fast enough, I am wondering on how many miners you could run on this type of scheme.....    I would assume a fiber link to this share would be ideal;  maybe even a separate fiber network just for the swap shares.....

I have these massive old 4U SCSI raids I wanna do something with eventually... maybe ill pop them on a miner and turn it into solely swap space just to hear what it's 'song' sounds like.......   The geek in me really coming out in this one....    They are massive and heavy... and I have two of them.    They need two full SCSI channels per unit to interface.   I don't have any PCI interfaces with 2x connectors...... yet.......

I also like the idea of network boot, not just swap. Need to think about it... Fiber is also cool but TP copper is fine these days with 10G easily achievable. 1G fully switched should be enough for any miner I think.

Speaking of SSD endurance... The problem with wear does exist and is really easy to overlook when you writing massive amounts of raw video or some such. Most current consumer grade SSDs have specified endurance of about 100TBW (plus/minus an order of magnitude). If you have an older and crappier SSD it may survive only a few Terabytes Written depending on its total capacity. Modern 960 Evo Pro could go to 1,000 TB (don't quote me on that though). Samsung 960 Pro could go up to 850 TBW for a 1TB model.

It's super easy to monitor via SMART and pretty much any modern disk utility would show your SSD health and how much data has been written to it in its lifetime. I would not be worried at all about Windows page file killing an SSD in any kind of mining application. If paranoid, you can shrink disk partition to use 90% of physical disk capacity and this will ensure survivability of your SSD and allow for wear leveling to do its job at all times. This brings another important factor not many understand. For the background wear leveling to work properly, you need to ensure that it will always have some free space to work with. I'd say 5-10% should be sufficient for any extreme situation. But again, for mining I wouldn't bother at all.

Here's an example of one of my boot SSDs running 24/7 for about three months doing NiceHash on Windows 10 with 4GB RAM. This cheap $50 128GB M.2 SATA SSD has seen 325 GBytes written to it so far and I'm sure it can go for 10+ years at this rate. Most of the writes come from various logging and not from paging activity though I have page file set to something like 30GB.

Ok thanks, both the EVGA SC2 and MSI duke are the same price, with the Vulcan being ~$50 cheaper.

Citronic - I haven't tested it with the 4 vegas yet but with 2 vegas and 3 rx570 (stock) it was 700w at the wall.
I have to wait to get back from work to check power useage. But I estimate about 700-800w.

So with going with the EVGA card based on Phils recommendation, does anybody think it's worth an extra $61 USD to get the FTW3 over the SC2?

Thanks for your suggestions

Office space or warehouse? Also curious how are you ventilating the space?

That's my personal office aka "man-cave"  Grin - my wife "evicted" me and my toys 2 years ago... a blessing in disguise I must say, allowing me to hook up with a few more friends to go "big" in the mining operations. Thanks to Phil and many others, we grew the farm bigger each year. The GPU farms are near my house and the "golden goose" Asics farms are hosted in Cryptoboreas in Labrador, Canada.

... just one stairs up from my office is the 2nd GPU farm, 26 x open cage metal frames, 17 x 20" floor fans and (3+2=5) x heavy duty industrial fans blowing out through the windows on the mezzanine floor. After consulting my buddies in data centres, i manage to use those heavy duty industrial fans to re-direct heat upwards and out the windows naturally. Overall temps at 35-36c during the day, and 33-34c during the night. During extra-ordinary hot days, 37-38c, I need to turn on that orange tube air extractor to help reduce temps another 1-2c. I am near the Equator so there is no winter season here.

The warehouse, above the office and my work area, hosts about 30 rigs and the next door warehouse which I also lease, similar size, around 36 rigs (older GPU farm). Both warehouses are powered with 63A/3phase via a bulk power provider and two broadband fibre internet provider (both warehouse share each other's internet connection for redundancy).

After the consolidation exercise with riserless mobos with 6 & 8 slots and junking out the risers = total both farms should be at about 50 rigs thereabouts... saving me a bit more on the power bill due to Cryptonite mining and also less rigs to pay to smOS service. About a dozen rigs are on H1110 and Biostar 12, 13 slots mobo. All AMDs RX480,480 were ex-ETH workers - now all mining Cryptonite. All NVIDIAs GPUs does the Equihash work. Only 30% of the farm are NVIDIAs.

These farms slave out Cryptonite and Equihash hash at Nicehash marketplace paying combined about USD$600 daily. The RX cards have served me well during the good ole ETH days - glad that they are still useful for Cryptonite mining. I dont bother with mining pools and their dramas anymore, just get BTC upfront by selling hash at NH... and accumulate BTC easy peasy.

Phil - I am getting the newer K35 8-slots server PSU powered mobo too. Improved version of K17 but with no CPU and no RAM -- but they said that this K35 uses only DDR3 notebook sodimm. Got one for you too  Grin

Now that's a man cave anyone would be proud to call their own! Well, you've helped me decide, I called my realtor and scouting a new location just for myself, no partners on this on. Not yet anyways. You made me want my own man cave!

What OS are you using to farm cryptonite with? I don't have any AMD's was just curious. I was thinking of migrating to smos but even when we had the warehouse farm up, I just monitored from the pool.

@Citronick, how did you do the redundant internet cabling? Was wondering if it can be done with regular network switches or require those more expensive "managed" switches.

Because I've rented another shoplot beside mine for another $250 usd/month and can do redundancy now. Another 3 phase, 60A, 240V to play with at 7.5cents/kwh

For the expansion I'll use these 8 gpu riserless solutions: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/mining-machine-ETH-machine-4u-8xgpu_60708486305.html

It's rather inexpensive compared to the nightmare called riser troubleshooting lol.

I'm going full 1070ti for expansion and selling my vegas (pm me if interested), they just take too much effort to deal with. Probably I'll start moving in rigs by Jan. Mine for a couple of months and add volta.

I've also seen some huge warehouses in Kuching. 45000sqft, supports 1000 KW of power, but will cost $60K USD to setup the place, rental deposit ,wiring and ventilation, and cost $5K usd a month rent. Roughly 5.3 cents/kwh. Pretty good value, but I don't have capital for this scale.

Awesome thanks for the pics Phil! I actually had no idea the hybrid fans were that big - the retail pics make them look so tiny! Good to know, I might pick up a few, that 2 limit will make me to multi orders though lol.

Do you  recommend powering the GPUs from the motherboard 6-pin output ? or better straight form the delta , cheapest DPS2400 came with 16 Cable which is plenty to power both the GPUs and board .

why cryptonite vs eth dual mining ? ive found dual mining eth and lbr is best profit for Rx cards

That is correct. Kuching, Malaysia, the land of oversupplied real estate. $250 usd = 1600sqft. In Hong Kong (where I live), the same space cost 15-20x more lol.

So with going with the EVGA card based on Phils recommendation, does anybody think it's worth an extra $61 USD to get the FTW3 over the SC2?

Thanks for your suggestions

Only worth paying a premium like that for the hybrid model imo.

2 x ISPs - 2 subnets - plenty of IPs to go around there. Also you can assign static DHCP to each rig using mac address.

If you want to rent me half of that warehouse... I don't mind cost-sharing with you. Good excuse for me to fly up there for laksa.

@marvell - one thing I learnt about mining this past 2 years is avoid dual mining like a plaque, your GPUs will last longer that way. Yes, you will earn a bit more, but if you take a closer look on the revenue you get from mining that 2nd coin.... its not worth it at the expense of more heat, more power and cut down the life of your GPUs.

@kemo - interesting thought - did not cross my mind to do that way - however, i will use whatever power allocation/format the mobo was designed for -- this will reduce any risks or surprises in future. I use the 6pin to 2 x 6+2pin splitter to support the 2x8pin cards... as long as you dont overload those cables (not exceeding 300w-350w) it should be ok.

@ VyprBTC - my GPU farm is standardized on smOS Linux. Some NVIDIA rigs use W10 and nvOC. My dashboard eventually is the NH dashboard - all in one reporting - including your daily tally$,  rig details etc.
Btw, if you have NVIDIA cards... why mine cryptonite? Those cards are the boss in Equihash by far vs AMD. All my AMDs are Cryptonite mining with sgminer-gm-v5.5.5.8-NH -- overall a bit slower but rock stable, pool failover support and best of all no dev fees. Until smOS comes in with Linux versions of stak-amd, cast-amd or dstm-amd with Nicehash support - I will stick to the proven workshorse like sgminer-gm (... just like Genesis Mining  Grin)
