I think the answer is clear. By nature, human IQ level, a portion of a population will make a story up to feel more secure in their life.
You are absolutely right about it. Countries with the highest IQ levels (South Korea, Japan, China.etc) are mostly atheist and the people there doesn't give much importance to the western business-minded religions such as Islam and Christianity. On the other hand, the low IQ nations (especially those in the middle-east and sub-Saharan Africa) are usually ultra-religious.
