Steemit subscription is free but if you want some audience, you have to buy some steem power. By buying steem token (or steem power) you became shareowner of the steemit project in a way. I’ve got an account, I’m posting on it (in French) about cryptocurrencies, but I’m a bit skeptical about this social network and here is why :
- It’s hard to get a real audience around your posts and content. You have to buy a lot of steem power (or be followed by a lot of people) to earn some money. My last post brought me 0.03$. You have to spend a lot of time to gather a real community around your purpose. It could be a waste of time.
- Steemit tries to promote quality content, but there as elsewhere, the girl showing her big boobs will get more “likes” and followers than you who have spent 3 days writing a long feature article on an interesting subject.
- Steemit is hard to understand. My friend and I have spent a lot of time reading how it works, and discuss to understand everything. But we are still lost about some obscures points… I think people are too lazy to try to understand steemit’s complexity.
- Steemit is austere. You easily get lost in the interface. It’s a struggle to write an article with the editing tools in markdown and so on.

For all these reasons, I think facebook still has a bright future. (And I don't like it).

Facebook is way more complicated and totally marketing dependent.

Steemit maybe complicated in the start to understand the 3 intern currencies, but trust me its the future ^^

Why do you think steem might win over Facebook or anyother social network app that currently available on the open web? What would drive the average consumer to use a PAID service if there is a free service that  already exist.

Never heard about Steem, so I went google it, after I saw this post. Although the project looks interesting I think it will fail because of the community it will attract. On facebook, users share posts and photos etc because they want to, and because of the status it offers them. Some like to connect, online, and most will probably just want to brag about their achievings and get more popular. I don't say this in a bad way, I guess it's just something humans have (some more than others), but we all like attention.

As for Steem, people won't really go for those things. They will get probably more attracted by the possibility of making some money, and will probably not even care about anyone's posts etc, so I guess it will never work as Facebook does. It might be ok for advertising etc, if it ever gets a big audience, but I doubt it will ever be an alternative to Facebook.

I think facebook will win. because facebook is better known and more familiar with everyone. although steem has a free feature that is not owned facebook, but here we see from the consumer interest. and we can see that many people who prefer facebook though have to pay.

I think of steem as being more like Reddit than Facebook.  I assumed they named it steemit to sound like Reddit.  I do like the idea being paid for great posts, and it may someday gain popularity as a Reddit like forum, but I can't see it being like Facebook or competing for the social media one liners and photo sharing.

Steem has some good features and will have its niche, but it will never compete with FB. That does not mean it won't be successful. You don't have to be as big as FB to be a success.

Facebook only lives from selling ads. Anyone read the latest analysis about Facebook and Alphabet ads bots? Only a tiny part of the klicks on facebook and google ads are done by humans. Facebook and google coded automatic bots who generate the traffic on their sites to make it look like a lot of potential costumers got to your webpage by facebook. Some companies already found that out and are now starting to slash their marketing exposures on facebook and google ads. So what would you think if they find out the company growth the same without facebook and google ads?? lol

Anybody that has a legitimate chance to compete with facebook has to completely re-contextualize the way social media integrates into our daily lives. And they must do it in a proprietary manner.

Snapchat almost did it, facebook stole all their good ideas and integrated them into its acquired instagram then Zuckerberg preceded to smear its ceo across all media outlets.
Steem isn't going to be able to compete in any way.

The guys at Ethereum seem to think Steem is garbage. We'll see how right they are or if they are just haters.

Steemit is a tremendous platform, especially for the crypto lover.

Facebook has jumped the shark.

I think steem and facebook have different fans and people join into both is because different purpose. i think steem is micro blogging like blogger, wordpress and else which can share our activity and the others. facebook is social media like instagram, badoo, and else which we can upload and share directly from our cellphone or our computer. maybe they use paid service is because they want something different than the free one and they want to increase ability on their account. but I don't know exactly because I am a free user in that two sites.

Its true that Steemit and Facebook have different efforts and use cases, but social media is a ever evolving field and no one can just sit and wait, not even Facebook. I am very positive regarding Steemit and the fight against global centralized monopoly tech corps.
