Altcoin Wallets?

I try my best to use an exchange wallet if I can, as that's usually the safest option as long as the exchange is a trustable one. Altcoin wallets can be easily infected if the dev team has no idea what they're doing so I'd be careful. If I have to download a wallet, I always download it on my virtual machine because that's at least safer than just installing it on my regular computer. You really can't be too careful nowadays.

I saw someone else in the thread above say to use VirtualBox - that's what I use too! The best part is the clipboard function, makes it easy to move things back and forth from host to virtual machine.

To those of you who own a lot of altcoins, do you all download a wallet specifically for that coin? 


I assume those of you that trade on bittrex don't need a wallet since you keep the coins on the exchange right?  So for example if you have litecoin, lisk, etc... no wallet is necessary?


Now to those of you who keep coins in wallets, how do you make sure the wallet you download is safe etc?  For example, there are tons of coins out there.  So say you own like 10 different altcoins.  You have 10 different wallets on your computer etc?  The other thing is... every altcoin ... let just say in the top 100... they all have wallets that you download specifically for their coin right?  The other thing is wouldn't it be complicated since i assume many wallets can be complicated?  For example with bitcoin, many ppl use electrum.  But for an average computer user, electrum is not exactly that simple to use etc.  But let say im looking at coins like this

I only save coins which I believe that in the future, the price will increase. so far, I use jaxx and coinomi to save and if those wallets don't have coins that I bought in an exchange, then I am fine to save in exchange for example in bittrex and poloniex. in the future, if the price for every coin increases, I will sell it and buy another coin which listed in the jaxx and coinomi.

you can download each of coins wallet into your computer and save private keys like electrum. I save many coins in bittrex and poloniex and so far I don't have a problem with the exchange.

I don't recommend other wallets other than myetherwallet when it comes to ERC20 platform tokens. Easy to use and safe and secure. I've been using using it for a long time time now so I'm happy if you're using it too.

I use Exodus wallet which you can hold such cryptocurrencies as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Dash, EOS, Aragon, Augur, BAT, Civic, Decred, District0x, Funfair, Gnosis,
Golem, OmiseGo, SALT in. This wallet has exchange ability and you can make exchanges between all that coins.

I use myetherwallet to hold my coins. A lot of bounty developers recommend this wallet because it is compatible to most ERC20 tokens. Using different wallets is not a good choice because you might get confused and you might mix your private keys.

Indeed, third party wallets today are more complicated and vulnerable to hacks so the legendary myetherwallet will offer more reliable and safer wallet for ERC20 contracts tokens.

So far, I'm not any using any wallet for altcoins now. Only for mew sometimes I used it if there is no exchange yet to trade it. But most of the time I hold my altcois in bittrex then sit it there and wait until it arise up the price value again.

Yes, there are fake wallets around. The best practice is to use the official wallets from the coin developers. Reputable wallet such as myetherwallet is fine as well.

Well downloading these wallets may take some time and hard disk space so, to save my hard disk for important files i just put them on exchanges for example c-cex although the withdrawal or transfer fee is a bit higher and sometimes it prone to hackers if you didn't took care of your exchange account but in ethereum it's a different situation, i uuse myetherwallet for my tokens and coinomi for th and some alts that coinomi supported.

I use MyEtherWallet for my Ethereum, and I must admit that I am positively surprised. Until now, I was only convinced of the blockchain and MyEtherWallet is also very efficient.

Myetherwallet does hold a lot of coins. A regular wallet from the company is something that you should look up on.

You are asking a lot of questions at once but I will give what input I can.

Whether or not you download the client (wallet) depends on what your intentions are with the coin. If you want to stake the coin, you'll need the wallet. If you want to take advantage of the advanced function calls, you'll need the wallet. If you're investing for long term growth, you'll want to have your coin protected by a personal private key. But, if all you want to do is day trade, then you can get one client (any asset of choice) and convert your coin to that asset at the end of your trading session. I would never suggest using an exchange, or any other centralized entity that controls your PK's, as a "wallet" to store your assets, never.

You should add MyEtherWallet.com to the list, one of the biggest and good around. They let you have whats yours means private keys...
and a lot of tokens are held by this wallet .
