I recently purchased an S7-LN on a whim.   Albeit low THs, I love how quiet this thing is!   Does anyone know how Bitmain managed to pull off such a quiet miner?   Does anyone have tips on how to bring my s9 to a reasonable noise level?

Yes. You need to underclock it a lot.

BTW, changing the frequency is not possible with the newer autotune frequency setting S9s.

Other than under clocking the S9 to make less noise, is there anything special about the S7-LN fans that make it so quiet?

Low fan speed --> low noise.

I'm running 3x S7-LN in my little farm, miners I love best  Tongue
More quiet than my R4's, full control over clock and fan speed.
Not the more efficient but they're back in profitability zone.
Perfect home heater  Cool

S7-LN also have a lot bigger heatsinks than S7 and S9, so in addition to drawing less power they cool more efficiently.

S7-LN are also easy to undervolt for even more efficiency/volume improvements.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

Have you seen anyone try to find/install larger heatsinks on an S9?

The S9s heatsinks are fitted on with some sort of tough epoxy so it would likely be difficult to even remove the heatsinks in the first place, nobody has tried to my knowledge though.

Use less power on mining, like 60% and it will be quiet as you desire.
