Asics cost cents after r&d and mask

...but if we keep seeing this "arms race", together with the fast pace of silicon production, the risk is a "permanent" r&d and mask, paid mostly by miners' preorders =)

Of course first buyer are buyers & inverstors.

they accept paypal and reply to emails and thorough investigation done by the forum members and some already been to their open day, what more do you want? Now all we want is for them to meet their promise September 2013 delivery deadline.

Currently KNC is the best option for European miners.

cui bono ?
the people bitching about knc hate those hashing monsters because they invested in avalon chips or else. if they keep people from buying from knc it pays out. i was about to order big time avalon chips when i stumbled across knc. i decided - in the last moment - to switch. what would my feelings be if i had ordered a few days earlier ? would i hate them... or me?   (on the other hand: i should actually not defend knc. the less they sell, the better for me, since i already did order  Roll Eyes)

it is incredible though how soft the community is about avalon and how hatefull some are towards knc. i am invested in avalon batch III and i ordered 500 avalon chips and i regret batch III

in a way the competiteveness of the asic miner producers stains through to us - the customers. keep that in mind while enjoying this show.

@Bitcoinorama/KS: could you please be so kind and stop flooding this threat with this useless shit? you should continue on other communication channel, but please don't bother us with this here.

It would be good if the quoting was cut down a bit. My scroll-finger is starting to complain Smiley

Cut down on your pics? Wink

So the package size? Did they really say it's 7.5cm/side?

I attempted to pay with paypal but the transaction surfaced as 'denied' on KNC's end. Anyone else experience this?

I just wish as many people put as much effort into creating stores and services that accepted bitcoin in non-mining disciplines and diversified and encouraged the use of spending Bitcoin. That's it's real hurdle into mainstream acceptance; uses of the currency aside hoarding of perceived wealth!

Ironically it's also the fastest route to gaining possession of coins which everyone appears hell bent on!!
(Though by it's very nature takes creativity and effort to discover opportunities and create solutions which is why so many shy away from this critical aspect of Bitcoin).

i wonder what the bitcoin price would be at if all the millions of fiat would not have been thrown towards hardware producers but towards bitcoin itself.

Okay guys a head's up, these are the questions for tomorrow. You have about an hour to PM anything else you want asked before I try and put my head down so I may awake bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Note: I've slept like 7 hours these past two days due to some crazy physical work I've undertaken, so i'm making sure I get an early night!!

Here's what I have:
--

KnC Mon 10/06 Openday Bitcointalk Member Questions

ChipGeek

Note: These questions come from a guy (me) that has worked in (non bitcoin) ASIC design companies for over 25 years so my focus is from that perspective.

My questions are:

1) Is your ASIC design a hardcopy of the existing FPGA design or is it a semi-custom standard cell design?  (They've said "standard cell" before but other information makes it look like hardcopy.)

2) Have you done a (semi-) custom ASIC design of this complexity before?  Have you taken wafers through all of the post-fab production steps: wafer test, bumping, packaging, package test and binning?

3) Are you doing pre-package wafer test?

4) Are you doing post-packaging testing on a real production tester (Teradyne or similar)?

5) (This question only makes sense if they are NOT doing hardcopy.)  Is your package the same as the FPGA package or a custom one?  If custom, have you done custom packages before?

ElGabo

How many miners will you able to produce a day? Not exactly, their realistic perceived capacity + - 10%.

retro72

1) Did they design the Mars chips or buy them off the shelf?

2) They seemed to imply they were Altera chips. Did they design them for Altera?

3) If they did not design the chips, how is the Mars prototype relevant to the asic designs?

4) Did they design and fab the PCB?

5) Is the software they developed for the Mars, directly applicable to the asics?

6) What problems did they actually run into with the Mars?

7) Have these been solved?

8)Do they translate/ have any bearing on the asic design?

9) Did they learn anything significant from these issues?

10) They seem to be significantly cheaper than all the other options out there. Why is this?

11) Will their prices be fixed, or will they follow the trends in the BTC price/ROI?

12) Will the prices be raised after this initial pre-order period or are these the final RRP?

wowc8

1) I would love to know if they have a date set for when we can see one of their ASIC units hashing like the video they posted about Mars.

2) If their plan for shipping Jupiters is indeed the end of September, then they should have a working product soon, I would hope, for all of us to see.  There was some mention about them not needing to prototype these units, but I would think that they should at least have an idea when the first one will be fully manufactured and ready to present.

idee2013

Paypal clarity

Not sure who asked the following:

I'd ask the attendees on Monday to start to get some questions tied to dates on the calendar.  Such as: When will chips be ordered to meet September deadline?  How long will is the queue from the manufacturer once the chips are order (ie: 8-10 weeks?)  If 8-10 week lead time needed to get in queue from manufacturer what date will KNC be placing order?  Etc...

It would benefit us as pre-order "investors" to have dates of the process on the calendar so we can hold the company to their word.  This sets up check points we can all look to along the next 3 months.  Otherwise we're at the mercy of News updates and a lot of times those come in reaction to criticism (lack of updates) from the community versus anything else.

We need to be proactive versus reactive in this pre-order process.  We're trusting our coins

I think they were kinda clear that much of this will be outsourced.

So, figuratively they will get the first one at the same time they could easily send to customers too.

It looks like they feel they can do the same steps to produce Mars and betting the house on it.

In the name of speed everyone will love it..  if we crash around a corner.. ahh well.
