I've sourced these on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PCI-E-Extension-Cable-1X-To-16X-Slot-Riser-Extender-Card-Flex-cable-Adapter-/111078049432

Good price, seems like a hard thing to mess up, too. And when I hook them up I can just stick it into a regular x16 or x1 slot and it will work as expected? If need be I can try to mod them for power as per https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76121.0. I am going to attach a 5850 and two 6950s to an ASrock 970 Extreme 4.

There's also this powered riser cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171044209841?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649. Assuming I can buy several with one shipping price I will get these.

I just got a shipment in of powered 1x to 16x and 16x to 16x that I am going to be selling for BTC and on eBay once I get a chance to post them. Not as cheap as those though. Only US shipping 15$ +shipping, but I would discount for orders of more than 5 cables. I will post a link once I get an eBay listing up. Willing to take BTC/Paypal and ship same day.

Since eBay takes a chunk pricing will be different there.  Good luck mining.

Buy one more than you need. Sometimes one doesn't work. And if you're lucky enough for them all to work, then you can always use it to add another card or build another rig down the road.

Well thanks everyone for the replies. I decided to buy some unpowered cables and molex adapters. The mod on forum doesn't look too difficult and what I spent in total is less than two units from hashratestore.com. I'm still skeptical whether power is necessary as the three cards I have on the motherboard are working swell and not burning out anything as is. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Power probably won't be necessary, but if the board blows you know why.  Where did you end up buying them from?  If you bought the ones on ebay they are going to take a long time to ship from HK
