So if you don't get a chance to log in before trading starts.. your orders will still be there and will execute?  I hope that's not how they do it.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I can understand, this is all up to Mt. Gox, isn't it? Not really much the users can do about it.
Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

To prevent it, no. To respond to it? It's called "a run on the bank."

If whatever action Mt.Gox takes pisses off the majority enough, they suffer serious loss of business. Note that the definition of 'enough' assumes enough to outweigh uncertainty over the alternatives being newer and not as well proven.

I thought they said it would 24 hours between opening their site back up and allowing trades?  Now it is one hour.

I agree,

it should be 24 hours between allowing people to login, and resuming trading.

ALSO, it would seem the reclaiming process is going slowly. Noone yet got account saying that their claim was accepted it seems, or very few people (<98% according to pool)
