Sounds like a fun project to be honest, I'd personally have no use for it, but that shouldn't deter you from building it.
I'm sure that it will be of some use for certain people who care about their anonymity.

If you're able to also make it into a service for sending bulk sms you could also find some businesses that might use it.

As others have said, there's a good chance that some people will use it to spam or do other illegal things, but that's up to them, not you.
Something like this also has legitimate uses.

Remember that Bitcoin is still beta software. Don't put all of your money into BTC!

For some countries, it will be useless. For example, in my country (Europe), it's free and unlimited with all the major contracts. I am charged 3€ per month for unlimited calls, unlimited SMS, 50 Go data. So why should I pay to send SMS and paying in Bitcoin? This situation is like with a lot of countries with the low-cost contract now.
It's surely why the project you mentioned about is abandoned since
Where are you from and which is your provider? I know you can get similar packages for 10 eur or so but 3 eur?? 50 gigs of data for 3 eur?
Anyway I think your idea is good, anonimous texts could be useful in some situations. But don't expect very good income from this so if this project will take you more than a week of work it's not worth it.

Not a good idea, even many projects where about anonymouse sms sending (with adsense ads and failed/weren't able to cover costs) + I believe you won't have many customer.
I think it will be good to offer receiving sms when bitcoin transaction gots 3/6 confirmation, these days people have to wait hours to get transaction confirmed even with high fees, so letting it to people with sms would be a good idea (not profitable but good).

If you are using blockchain.info wallet, they let you know when you get income/expense from your wallet. You can chose to be notified with SMS or Email

You guys think point is sending SMS cheap, no. Point of last project was to send sms to anyone anonymously with Bitcoin.

I see, but the question is who needs to send anonymous SMS. You send messages to your friends, family, co-workers, etc you don't need to hide your face. The only group of people I see who may be interested is for marketing spam purposes. For example, I receive at home 2-3 calls weekly trying to sell me, swimming pools, insurances, solar panels, etc. They call less since we are now able to report them. With a website/app like your, I guess they will really enjoy it Cheesy

Agree, he's right. Most people don't need to send messages anonymously.
You should consider the usability instead of just thought; "oh it will be fun".
Maybe few people may like to use your service and you can try to develop it, just go ahead.
I'd like to see how it will be and how much people are willing to pay bitcoin for anonymous sms.

Actually, project would be appropriate before era of messengers WhsApp an so on. These times lots of people was engaged in seeking ways to reducea  bills for chating with sms. But it wasnt a bitcoins like features ))    Now any payments for chating is unperspective i think. Only if you ll create some privilege community, joining of witch will cost fee an messagess could cost ...

I found some project that was up long ago, and it allowed you to send SMS messages to someone paying with Bitcoin. Project is now closed, but look like a fun idea. Would you guys be interested in such a service ? It wouldn't take me long to make this and code would be publicly available on GitHub. Let me know your opinions on this idea.

Edit:
Since some people are to bored to read whole thread, point of last project was not to send SMS cheaper than your carrier or whatever, point was to send it anonymously.

Its very bad idea all developer aplication make best aplication with free to use

I think it's not reasonable for any developer. Because the value of bitcoin always changes, while the value of each message that is sent is the default, so we can not give a fixed rate.

Sorry but now people can send sms  (i don't use sms anymore tbh) or i call it message for free using whatsapp and there are so many apps similar to the whatsapp, so for this reason i think this project will not success. If you mean something like private chat or peer to peer, well whatsapp claim that their messages are fully end-to-end encrypted, telegram is another service similar to this, people nowdays will think twice before spend their bitcoin, i personally won't do that paying sms with bitcoin, why do i have to pay, while free is exist, just my suggestion.

Yes, I agreed. SMS is obsoleted and maybe that's the reason the previous SMS project has closed down.
Its just really a senseless thing if you would able to make plan on having this kind of service and as being said why would pay? If theres already a free app or service are being used already. This project will definitely fail from the start and would not really get any interest because of those existing messaging service.

SMS is the more easy to oaccess in a phone ... sms is not secure too like others ... we are better now in other apps with another password to input even your phone is unlock .. in addition pof the bitcoin address are all uniques and cant be edited .. it is along sequence of numbers and letters so it is better and ssafe on the same app ...

I think sending a message to someone by paying using bitcoin will be much more expensive than a regular carrier if it is redeemed. but quite interesting if the price is adjusted, because it will greatly simplify bitcoiners without having to be exchanged first. I disagree if sending them anonymously because it would trigger a crime for an irresponsible person, may be.

Just a simple question : How is the sms anonymous? It still goes through some cell phone providers network and in my country you have to jump through several loops to buy a sim card. We do not have a option to buy throw away mobile phones. Do you plan to link this to a website that sends bitcoins deposited onto their platform to the cell phone numbers of the users choice?

I think this might be useful if you can eliminate the sender from using their own mobile phones. Good idea. ^smile^

What happens if the bitcoins are unclaimed? Does it go back to the sender? < sending coins to non-bitcoiners > ?
