Few years ago I was able to buy all I need to survive for €100 ($120) a week (rent not included). Today I at least need €200 ($240), although I mostly buy the same stuff as before. What do you think is the reason and what implication does it have long term?

I think that life does not become more expensive, but the value of currencies becomes more expensive. Previously, we had a minimum salary of $ 100, and now $ 128 and, accordingly, slightly increased prices for everything else.

we in tunisia(North Africa) are facing the same problem. since 2011, Prices have been multiplied by 2 and sometimes by 3. Life here is getting worse and our currency 'Dinar' has become very low compared to Eur or usd Sad

I agree with what you say, because what I experienced like that ..
my pay raise can not change my money, the steadily increasing cost of basic commodities impacts my monthly or weekly expenses
1% that I can allocate to save.

The rise in prices - inflation - is an age-old phenomenon. Economists disagree as to what its causes are, though it is fairly widely accepted that it is in part influenced by variations in the money supply.

Central Banks are in charge of monitoring the inflation rate. The U.S. Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank usually target a core inflation rate of 2% (that is, prices grow 2% over a year). They can manipulate it by adjusting the interest rate at which they lend money to banks, among other things.

Go through the items and find the ones that are costing a lot. Then decide if it's worth buying or if it's better to do without/cut down use or go for a cheaper alternative.

I assume you're not counting utilities since it doesn't take much of a mining setup to cost that much to run, although in that case I presume you're getting substantially more out of it.

I use cryptocurrency and solar power to help my best friend Naomi Wu... And I'm proud of it!

yes I agree that life nowadays are getting more expensive. It is because besides our basic needs we also allot some money on some of our wants that is now considered as needs. examples of these are cellphones.

Prices are generally set by supply and demand.

Over the past decade, supply has roughly stayed the same, while demand continues to grow as people continue to have sex.

I think life becomes more expensive due to the fact that every year there is more and more technology and fewer jobs or wages are not sufficient for a comfortable standard of living.

The world gets stronger everyday and not all humans cope to it. We see it as things getting too damn expensive but in reality it is just us not being able to ride with the tide.

Also, my grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar mastered all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless firebenders. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the War. Two years ago, my father and the men of my tribe journeyed to the Earth Kingdom to help fight against the Fire Nation, leaving me and my brother to look after our tribe. Some people believe that the Avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads, and that the cycle is broken. But I haven't lost hope. I still believe that somehow, the Avatar will return to save the world.

I think it depends heavily upon where you live, the annoying thing where I live is a lot of products shrink in size but the price stays the same. The best thing to do is buy in bulk as much as possible, if you're buying a drink in a can five times a week out the vending machine, it'll cost way more than buying a 2 litre bottle of the same drink from the supermarket.

yes why is it? for me it is so frustrating...my salary before was low...but now...even my salary increases i can't even buy my desired clothes for myself ...maybe this is because when we get paid a low salary we are satisfied in small things but when it will increase, our demand will also increase...

Life is getting expensive because you are using money made by someone else.

If you traded your products or services that you personally made, directly with people who made the products or services that you needed, WITHOUT using money, things would be different.

With money, the people that make the money also control it to some extent. They manipulate it so that they get a cut off every transaction... often without anyone knowing it. It might be in the form of taxes. Or it might be inflation.

Consider Bitcoin. If Bitcoin ruled the world, how long would it take for the miners to raise the transaction fees? It might not take a very long time. We might be up to 10% in transaction fees rather than a few satoshis, if we wanted out transactions to go through in a timely manner.

Life is getting expensive for two reasons. On the one hand, the quality of things and products is growing up on and on and on and on and life is getting better and more comfortable, so the cost is getting better too. On the other hand, the people who control all the money in the world, they just wanna more money, on and on and on and on. So, the prices are growing up and they get what they wanted.

The dollar today is devalued and worth so much less these days - government controls the money supply and keeps issuing more money 'quantitive easing' which causes 'inflation' and so FIAT becomes worth less and you can buy less with it. Also watch out for greedy corporations that reduce the portion size of everything so you get less food in a packet  etc etc.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are generally deflationary and have the opposite effect on your funds - their increasing scarcity is designed to work the opposite to FIAT. That is why I am a big supporter for our ecosystem.

Few years ago I was able to buy all I need to survive for €100 ($120) a week (rent not included). Today I at least need €200 ($240), although I mostly buy the same stuff as before. What do you think is the reason and what implication does it have long term?

Also depends on what your living standards are, not to say you live luxury but others do with a smaller budget. If you spend more in an area such as going out for drinks then yeah it has gotten allot more expensive, or if you smoke it's atleast 3x or 4x as expensive. Not saying you do. But if you really find yourself paying allot of means of living and relaxing then it's best to revise your spendings.

Because of inflation wherein prices tend to go up. Because of the increase in salaries and wages, then the company makes the prices of their product to go up so that it will compensate the wage increase.

1) rich are getting richer while poor get poorer
2) not living off necessity but rather the wants ie poor lifestyle choices

As the disparity widens society struggles. We need to ensure there will be more middle class, this will provide for a efficient society.

Few years ago I was able to buy all I need to survive for €100 ($120) a week (rent not included). Today I at least need €200 ($240), although I mostly buy the same stuff as before. What do you think is the reason and what implication does it have long term?

Inflation. Money is becoming less valuable.

Unfortunately inflation has always been a problem and will always be a problem. Inflation goes up and the value of your currency will go down, making things more and more expensive as time goes on.

its because fiat is losing its value, or maybe in the country you live in has a inflation or hyperinflation going on that's why you feel your money's worth is getting low.

Inflation is the most likely culprit, simply the value of money is not what it used to be. It is however not an even story because in some categories you have a deflationary cycle going on - where you are getting more for the same amount of money, think technoogy products etc, this manifests itself in things like a laptop or a phone remaining at a constant price with capacity and features increasing every year.

It’s because of all the inflation from the money printing to maintain the debt cycle.

it is inflation, just as in my country (Indonesia) 17 Years ago 2 million rupiah could buy a lot of land, now can only buy land 2 - 4 square meters.

Eh, life has always been difficult and expensive. Most people live in need, throughout history. It's just that life becomes challenging in different ways now. I think however, in most countries, our standard of living and human rights is still better than the past. We're just as unhappy however.
