Even today USD is the most widely used currency among terrorists, drug dealers and is the easiest to launder, there are more illegal funds laundered to wall street through delaware companies than in any tax heaven or cryptocurrency yet they always portray people that use cryptocurrencies or tax heaves as being "suspicious".
It's like this political nudism and you show up covered with a towel so they immediately put you on the terrorist list since you do not fancy them touching your junk...

Don't they usually use suitcases of US one-hundred dollar bills? Was the backpack and pressure cooker not paid for in USD? If it's a weapon no one is supposed to own, it doesn't matter what kind of coin was used. Bitcoin's novelty offers scant long-term surety, but it all depends how the community treats it. It could end up being gold, so we still see a prospect in the face of Liberty Reserve, MtGox, and who ever is next. My money would be on OKpay, unless it turns out to be the financial arm of the PRC. That would suck balls. Actually i think the pressure cooker was bought in Amsterdam i read somewhere. |

They have already been attacking Bitcoin as a method of paying for illegal drugs and terrorist activities.
And it is all without merit. USD cash has been used for this purpose since its inception. No one calls for a ban of the Dollar. That aside they've spent millions and years fighting distributed file sharing and have gotten no closer to shutting that down either. Short of shutting down ISP's at gunpoint there really isn't jack they can do about Bitcoin aside attack end users at the fringe.

If anyone thinks that Bitcoin value is where it's at because all these new people believe in the "cause", you too are delusional. The rise is due to speculation and greed. Remove that and Bitcoin is back to it's very small core of followers, with a value of $5-10, at best. And that's only because it will continue to be viable as a black market currency. $10 x 11,000,000 coins means a $110,000,000 economy. Are you really saying that world's "black market" economy is worth only $110M USD? LOL Just FYI: according wikipedia, black market economy amounts to at least 1,800 BILLION $ per year. Yes: $1,800,000,000,000. If Bitcoin is banned and only "black market" embraces Bitcoin... We are going to +4 digits per coin regardless of what your dear folks at DHS, Justice Department, CIA or FBI say. In fact, if the whole world "black market" economy goes to BTC (which is unrealistic, but it's just to give you a hint of how wrong are your took-from-the-ass calculations), we would be looking at $85,000 per BTC. Your logic is simply flawed. What about cocaine, marijuana, etc.? They are waaaay cheaper because they are banned by the US, right? And no, people will not use Bitcoin because they believe in the "cause". They will use Bitcoin because it solves a lot of practical, real life problems. +1 for dispelling Coinseeker FUD. Some of his drivel makes me wonder whether or not he's actually seeking coins... |

How long will it take people to realise that the truth is irrelevant when it comes to political posturing? There is currently an undercurrent of agendas moving forward to legitimise bitcoin but to do so will require power to be moved from where it is now, with geeky new world order conspiracy nuts, and hand it to governments. (ironically, proving the whole NWO story is true after all!  ) Rather than explain how its happening, look at other examples of it happening. For instance when the internet went from being the place of geeks and cypherpunks to being a mainstream government controls space. Yes, I know there are places on line that there is no control, but that is also true in the physical world. Every city in the world has a bad part of town where you can buy illegal products and services with cash with no questions asked. That isn't proof that the whole country is in anarchy. The same is true for bitcoin. Over the next 2 years, I have a feeling that early adopters are going to be pushed out of the whole bitcoin decision making process. Once its in the hands of the banks and the government, then its value will soar, although, I wouldn't be surprised if it might also be a different coin that does the soaring - again for control reasons! That coin will not be the terrorist's bitcoin - even if it is! |

Sounds good, I'll make an exact copy of the bitcoin source code and change a number or two to lower the block difficulty, premine the heck out of it, and release it. Hmm. We just need a good name. Freedomcoin? Libertycoin? I know scamcoin. Ok I'm announcing the release of my coin. I'm giving you heads up notice so its all above board. It will be released and we will start mining July 4th, 2012. |
