Hi!
When will the Windows Wallet be released approx? Not sure if it's worth setting up Linux for that.

I would think mining gets harder when the windows wallet is available. Took about an hour to compile the wallet and 15min to install ubuntu in vmplayer (free).

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Given the relatively low difficulty, you might want to go ahead and install the linux package in a VM and generate a wallet. You don't need the VM to mine.

Best reason for mining this is because it's low difficulty?
I don't see a lot of features.

I think the difficulty is not really low now...
The difficulty is actually surprisingly high. I only mined about 50 VOT's in about 8 hours on a 1060 3GB. That's the same amount I mine XVG (and they have a brighter future tbh). I will mine a few more days to see if it gets a little better and might switch back to XVG.
I just started the whole Cryptocurrency and mining thing a month ago and don't have a big rig yet so I gotta choose something with a future and an actual return for now since I'm mainly testing the waters so far. Big rig will be built in a few weeks. Then I will for sure come back to VOT. I will still leave the node running every now and then though to help out a little.

Hi
 excuse me
how mined Xvg???and how much with one GPU??
Thanks say to me
I'm using Windows ccminer on idcray pool. I use the myr-groestl algorithm. Concept is the same as any other Command Line miner. There are videos on youtube on how to set it up. You might also want to check the XVG (Verge) forum here on BCT.

@Everyone: Sorry to hijack this thread... :$

Thanks, I'll try those settings.

I managed to use
./src/votecoin-cli z_exportwallet exportfilename
command by putting exportdir argument when running node.
For example,
./src/votecoind -exportdir=/home/username/wallet

Good to know this, need to try this on my machine too. I've tried all ways to add the -exportdir to config file, never worked. Thanks for this Smiley

Hi @votecoin.site

Am a bit new to this, so correct/educate me if i am wrong.

I was just looking through github sources and can see the changes to premine 1M coins in the first block and then 125 coins per block after that, as well as the removal of the founders reward

4.54% premine documented for contributors equates to about 10M coins (cap 220M coins)

We are on block 15590 - at 125 VOT/block + block 1 - thats is about 1.95M + 1M VOT awarded so far

So where did the 10M coins come from for the premine ?

When we made our first patches to the source code, we kept 12.5 block reward and added 1M reward for the first block, with total supply of 22 million coins. This was made in the patch you are referring to.

But later during the pre-release phase, we decided to increase that 10 times, to 220 million coins total supply, and set the first block reward to 10M. This change is made in another patch, which is called "better marketing strategy" and you can find it at github here:

Windows Wallet:

You can get windows wallet by using Bash on Windows 10. More info: https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/

I've built as said on the Github (with small changes):

Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install git
git clone https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin.git
cd ./VoteCoin/zcutil
sudo bash votecoin_build_debian.sh

then simply
Code:
#If you finished Installation:
cd ..
#If You opened new bash window
cd VoteCoin
and
Code:
./src/votecoind

This will start it.

Now open new bash window, and
Code:
cd VoteCoin
then you can use wallet:

Address:
./src/votecoin-cli getnewaddress

Shielded Address:
./src/votecoin-cli z_getnewaddress

Get Balance:
./src/votecoin-cli getbalance
./src/votecoin-cli z_getbalance <wallet>

And make transaction (NOT Tried YET):
Quote
./src/votecoin-cli z_sendmany FROM_ADDR '[{"address": "TO_ADDR", "amount": 123}]' 1 0

In the above mentioned example, both FROM_ADDR and TO_ADDR can be either T addresses or Z addresses or combination. The last two numbers (1 0) stand for minConf and fee. In the example above, the coins on FROM_ADDR must have at least 1 confirmation, and fee is set to zero.

Remember that coinbase transaction (sending newly mined coins) must be done from a T address to a Z address. So if you wish to send newly mined coins to a T address, you need to send them to a Z address first and then make another transaction from that Z address to the T address destination.

After a transaction is executed using z_sendmany, you can check its status by using:

./src/votecoin-cli z_getoperationresult

We are currently working on VoteCoin windows client. Not the GUI yet, but a text-mode client which can be used the same way like the Linux client, most importantly to generate addresses and make transactions. It should be ready soon, so stay tuned!

Official windows wallet released.
It is not GUI wallet yet, it is only a text-mode server and client.
Download is 853 MB. The big size is due to the proving key to be included in the released, to make it simple for users to download and use.
