Hi there and good evening. I am getting quite frustrated by this problem as I am trying to move BTC out of my wallet in order to claim my Bitcoin Cash, but just sending my funds to another wallet is giving me a headache!

So, if you check out the image below you can see what I mean, so I selected the max amount to send and have the lowest fee selected, that is all good, but the problem lies in the numbers.

So you can see at the bottom that I have 0.33745BTC, but the max amount I am able to send is 0.3172592. This in no way correlates with the sending fee of 0.0001908, which if taken off of my actual savings would leave 0.33726BTC still to be sent. At the moment the fee it shows is actually around £2 but if you look at my savings amount and the sending amount I would be losing out on around another £200 for my troubles.

It would be nice if someone could help me with this situation as literally all I want to do is transfer from one Electrum wallet to another without any ridiculous fees!!

Could you maybe list the adresses you want to spend from?

It seems to me that you are probably trying to make a transaction with either dust in it, or a very large number of outputs, which usually results in - ridiculous -, but mostly necessary fees.

see https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/10986/what-is-meant-by-bitcoin-dust

and, https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/5583/how-can-i-combine-all-the-tiny-amounts-ive-received-to-minimise-transaction-fee might be useful to you aswell.

Sorry what do you mean by the addresses I want to spend from? I don't know quite what you mean. I'm literally just transferring from one wallet to another.

Also it is for sure neither of the reasons you have mentioned as I haven't been buying or transferring in very small amounts, plus the point is that it isn't showing up as a fee at all, it just shows that my sending limit is about £200 below what it should be when I select the max transfer button in Electrum, but the fee that shows up is 100% fine, normal and reasonable, so it is essentially just like it is going to deduct money without giving me the reason why.

Still very confused as to why this would happen.

I imagine that you have a HD wallet (the one that has a seed), which means that your wallet own multiple addresses.

Go to your Addresses tab (if it's not showing: View -> Show Addresses) and check each of your addresses with a non-empty balance. See if the numbers match to what you should be able to spend.
If your Electrum version is > 3.0, don't forget to check both "Receiving" and "Change" addresses at the filter option.

I know for this "problem" because I also try to send max amount and empty my wallet completely.Do not use "max option" but first decide what fee you want to pay for this transaction. You have 0.33745 BTC and let's say you want to pay a fee 500 000 satoshi,so just type that amount in fee window and type amount for send 0.33245 BTC.In this way you will spend all from your wallet and it will be with 0 balance.

How much fee you will pay depends of your transaction size, number of inputs and outputs and how fast transaction you want.Maybe there is some other way to do this, but it is work for me and it is quite simply.

What type of wallet is this? The wallet type should be mentioned in the window title.

Can you click on the preview button and tell us the output amounts listed there?

Yes my wallet has multiple addresses. If I check all of the addresses and add the balances from each in both receiving and change I get a number of 0.326853 (it is slightly less than before as I sent a small transaction to another wallet which is awaiting confirmation), this number correlates with my new wallet balance but if I go into the send window and click the max button now it gives me a figure worryingly even much smaller than before. It now says my max sending amount is 0.0465546 with a fee of 0.0001464, how is this possible if I have 0.326853 in my wallet? Will I lose the rest of the coin in my wallet or will the remaining amount still be there and then I will have to keep sending more tiny transactions? I want to send this in one transaction and surely I should be able to send my whole balance in one go.

Inputting the values manually does no good either, that really is the max amount it will let me send! Very confused as to this problem still.

For anyone interested I solved the problem. Because some of the bitcoins were in the "Used" addresses, by default it wouldn't allow me to spend from them, but by selecting all the addresses with any coin in them from the "Addresses" tab and then right clicking and choosing "spend from" I am able to choose the true maximum amount send my entire balance in one go. Thanks for the help, I probably wouldn't have worked it out otherwise!

That doesn't make sense. Electrum keeps track of all your addresses including used ones. Were any of the addresses frozen? Frozen addresses have light blue back ground and you can't spend from them until you unfreeze.

No none were frozen as far as I know, like I said I solved it just by going to the Addresses tab, selecting all of them and choosing "spend from". Previously it wasn't allowing spending from any of the "Used" addresses.
