Bought my first BTC @ $4600, slightly worried

$4600 bitcoin for your 1st buy is not really good. When the price dump until $3500 maybe would be better for you to buy. I think you are too excited to have bitcoin in that day. Today bitcoin is lower than $4600 which is really not good for you. Try to wait until end of the year.

Even if you do not consider yourself a trader buying bitcoin with the intention of selling it later is the act of a trader and as such we must make an afford to learn the very basics of trading before our purchases, because something like what we are seeing may happen, you buy near the top of the bubble and now you are going to be in the red for a long time.

Honestly, this is quite frustrating as you buy in really high price and now you're dealing in what you might lose.
As we seen bitcoin fall to $3000 within this month from $4600 and until now we're slowly hovering. But buddy if you trust bitcoin enough you'll hold tight to it. Yeah if that will happen to me I can't have a good sleep but what's done is done and we should just move on and wait to have a good profit. Just trust and it'll happen.

I never made that mistake but it is not like I’m perfect or anything I understand why people make that mistake, they see the price of bitcoin growing everyday and they think they need to get in now or they are going to miss on the easy profits, but once you trade based on feelings and not based on the math then you are a lot more susceptible to make mistakes like the OP, but if the truly believes in bitcoin holding is the only choice he has.

Even if you do trade with math you cant still assure to have profits anytime specially on trading or investing into bitcoin.Knowing that prices are too volatile and no matter how hard you would calculate and stuffs movements doesnt rely on anything which is the thing would really be hard for us investors and traders. Panic do normally happen because we do afraid to lose up money as a human we do feel this way but as a believer of bitcoin we should hodl no matter what happen.

It's natural to worry because right now you are at a loss, but bitcoin is highly volatile and you should've known before you invested that it was possible. I personally invested at a similar price but I am confident that in a few months time I will look back and be very content with my investment.

I think Op is not as patience enough as we think, that’s why it is impossible for him to HODL and wait for more days or weeks even there is always a big chance to profits as you said a 7000$ or more than I think in the future.
 
I advice first Op that he need first to understand and research how bitcoin history and what are the factors it become popular right now.

I think this is an accurate description of what it is happening but I will add that when I bought my first bitcoin the price was nothing like what we are seeing right now, so my investment was a lot smaller compared to the investment of the OP, and that is without taking into account that I checked the charts before buying and I choose to buy in a moment bitcoin was getting down, so after a few days I was in positive territory.

Simply is when the price of Bitcoin drop down is different your prediction, you will feel panic in that time if you do not ready with the bad situation. Then, you will see others also want to sell their coin before Bitcoin's value dump more, that is the time you will take loss

Price has started to recover once again so there is nothing to worry and it will regain its position in coming days so the only thing you need to make sure is that you don't lack patience and hold your coins for the right time as it is predicted that price will touch $5000 at the end of the year so if you hold till that point of time then you will be making good profits on your investments.

Words of encouragement I would say dont be too worried just at this moment because its normal for adverse news of some kind, the main thing that matters is integrity of the blockchain itself.  The most relevant news is crypto news, various politics and country news is not so systemic as what can happen digitally.  
I would also argue its better to buy every month not just once off, regular buys gains an average price.  So long as its a bullish market you will be into growth which is the most reliable way to get a profitable trade, nobody knows exactly when is the right times to buy or sell.

Edit: Bitcoin has now crossed the $4600 mark so now you have break even and it's up to you to decide that either you want to sell your coins or save them as investment and I am sure if you take the second option then you are not gonna regret in the future as bitcoin will be double or triple the price in the coming years, so just forget that you have invested in bitcoins and come back after a decade and you will surely be surprised.

Yeah, it has already reached the mark of 4500$ and is likely to increase even more. Well, I foresee it to be 5000$ till the end of this month. So, this will be relieving news and if everything settles in right place, you can even get huge profits but till then it only demands one's patience...

Anyway: the 2nd wave of news regarding shutdown of local exchanges hit hours after I made the purchace, and the value plummeted (it's now hovering just above $4000, that's a 13% decrease). Lesson learned I guess.

This is nor for everyone, most of these guys are buying bitcoin is short term with loan money and that's why they panic and sell earlier than they are supposed to hold it.

Honestly, if you're looking at the long term any entry price right now would be good. 1000$ is a bargain if compared to the potential that bitcoin has in the upcoming years.
It doesn't matter that you bought at 4600$, it matters that you pulled the trigger and bought it. It's as simple as that. In 2020 you'd wish you were able to buy bitcoin at that rate.
Of course if you're in for a short term proft you'd have to catch bounces and place buy orders on support levels but you're never sure the price will ever go that low again.

Well you are in profit right now, only by a five percent  at least, but it is good money because you bought at $4600 your bitcoin, and now it is upto $4850 each one.
So you can see it, you waited some time, but you are in profit now, maybe it took a little bit long since you bought on a bearish trend, but now it is over and the price is going up again.
